ഒരു വർഷം പുറത്തിറങ്ങുന്ന മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിന് എല്ലാ വർഷവും നൽകി വരുന്ന ഒരു ദേശീയ പുരസ്കാരമാണ് മികച്ച മലയാളചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള ദേശീയ പുരസ്കാരം. ഭാരത സർക്കാരിന് കീഴിലുള്ള വാർത്താവിനിമയ മന്ത്രാലയം രൂപീകരിച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവ ഡയറക്ടറേറ്റ് ആണ് ഈ പുരസ്കാരം പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നതും വിതരണം ചെയ്യുന്നതും. രജത കമല പുരസ്കാരങ്ങളോടൊപ്പമാണ് മികച്ച മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള പുരസ്കാരവും പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച് പിന്നീട് വിതരണം ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

മികച്ച മലയാളചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള ദേശീയ പുരസ്കാരം

ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉന്നതമായ ചലച്ചിത്രപുരസ്കാരമാണ് ദേശീയ ചലച്ചിത്രപുരസ്കാരം. മലയാളം കൂടാതെ അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ട 22 പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷകളിലും ഒപ്പം എട്ടാം ഷെഡ്യൂളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്താത്ത പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷകളിലും പുറത്തിറങ്ങുന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങൾക്കും ഭാഷാടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ പുരസ്കാരം നൽകാറുണ്ട്.

ഏഴ് പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷകളിൽ (ബംഗാളി, ഹിന്ദി, കന്നട, മലയാളം, മറാഠി, തമിഴ്, തെലുഗു) മികച്ച ചിത്രങ്ങൾക്ക് പുരസ്കാരം നൽകാൻ തുടങ്ങിയത് 1955 ഡിസംബർ 21 - ന് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച 2 -ാമത് ദേശീയ ചലച്ചിത്രപുരസ്കാരം മുതലാണ്. ഈ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ "മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രപതിയുടെ വെള്ളി മെഡൽ, മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള അഖിലേന്ത്യാ മെറിറ്റ് സെർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ്, മികച്ച മൂന്നാമത്തെ ചലച്ചിത്രം എന്നീ പുരസ്കാരങ്ങളായിരുന്നു നൽകിയിരുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ പിന്നീട് ഇവയിൽ രണ്ട് സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് പുരസ്കാരങ്ങൾ 1967 - ലെ 15 -ാമത് ദേശീയ ചലച്ചിത്രപുരസ്കാരം മുതൽ ഒഴിവാക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.

മികച്ച മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രപതിയുടെ വെള്ളി മെഡൽ ആദ്യമായി കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയത് 1954 - ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ നീലക്കുയിൽ എന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രമായിരുന്നു. പി. ഭാസ്കരനും രാമു കാര്യാട്ടും ചേർന്ന് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ഈ ചലച്ചിത്രം മലയാള സാഹിത്യകാരനായിരുന്ന ഉറൂബിന്റെ കഥയെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയാണ് നിർമ്മിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഒരു ദളിത് പെൺകുട്ടിയും, ഉയർന്ന ജാതിയിൽപ്പെട്ടതും സ്കൂൾ‍ അധ്യാപകനുമായ ഒരാളുമായുള്ള പ്രണയമാണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉള്ളടക്കം. മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഒരു നാഴികക്കല്ലായാണ് നീലക്കുയിൽ കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. നീലക്കുയിലിനോടൊപ്പം എസ്.എസ്. രാജൻ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത സ്നേഹ സീമ എന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിന് മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് ലഭിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. രജത കമലത്തിലുൾപ്പെട്ട മികച്ച മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള ദേശീയ പുരസ്കാരം നേടിയ മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടികയാണ് ചുവടെയുള്ളത്.
