1957 മുതൽ എല്ലാ വർഷവും മികച്ച വിദേശഭാഷാ ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരത്തിനായി ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നും ഒരു ചലച്ചിത്രം ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നു. [1] അക്കാഡമി ഓഫ് മോഷൻ പിക്ചർ ആർട്സ് ആൻഡ് സയൻസസ് ആണ് എല്ലാ വർഷവും ഈ പുരസ്കാരം നൽകി വരുന്നത്. [2] 1956 വരെ മികച്ച വിദേശഭാഷാ ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള പുരസ്കാരം ഇല്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും 1947 മുതൽ 1955 വരെ അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയിരുന്ന വിദേശഭാഷാ ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ മികച്ചവയ്ക്ക് ഓണററി അവാർഡ് നൽകിയിരുന്നു. ഒരു വർഷം പുറത്തിറങ്ങുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും മികച്ച വിദേശഭാഷാ ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനായി ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി ഫിലിം ഫെഡറേഷൻ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ ഒരു സമിതിയ്ക്ക് രൂപം നൽകുന്നു. [4] തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ സബ്ടൈറ്റിലുകൾ സഹിതം അക്കാദമിയിലേക്ക് അയയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. [5] ഇന്ത്യയിൽനിന്ന് ആദ്യമായി ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ചിത്രം 1957-ൽ മദർ ഇന്ത്യ എന്ന ഹിന്ദി ചലച്ചിത്രമായിരുന്നു. അവസാന ചുരുക്കപ്പട്ടികയിലും ഈ ചലച്ചിത്രം ഇടംനേടിയിരുന്നു. [6] ഒരു വോട്ടിന്റെ വ്യത്യാസത്തിൽ നൈറ്റ്സ് ഓഫ് കാബിരിയ എന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനായിരുന്നു ആ വർഷം പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിച്ചത്. [7][8][9] 2014 വരെ മദർ ഇന്ത്യ (1957), സലാം ബോംബെ (1988), ലഗാൻ (2001) എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ് അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരത്തിനായി നാമനിർദ്ദേശം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത്. [10] 2011-ൽ, ആ വർഷത്തെ ദേശീയ ചലച്ചിത്ര പുരസ്കാരം നിർണയിച്ച ജൂറി, മികച്ച ചിത്രമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രമായിരിക്കും ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഓസ്കാർ ശുപാർശയെന്ന് അറിയിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. [4][11] ഇതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് അടുത്ത മൂന്ന് വർഷങ്ങളിലും മികച്ച ചിത്രം തന്നെയായിരുന്നു ഓസ്കാർ പുരസ്കാരത്തിനായി ഔദ്യോഗികമായി ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ചിത്രവും. [12] 90-ാമത് അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരത്തിലേക്ക് ന്യൂട്ടൺ എന്ന ഹിന്ദി ചലച്ചിത്രമാണ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നും ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടത്.
ശുപാർശകൾ തിരുത്തുക
50-ലധികം ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യ ഇതുവരെ ശുപാർശ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇവയിലധികവും ഹിന്ദി ഭാഷയിലുള്ള ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളായിരുന്നു. ഒൻപത് പ്രാവശ്യം തമിഴ് ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങൾ നാമനിർദ്ദേശം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയുണ്ടായി. മൂന്ന് പ്രാവശ്യം മറാഠി ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളും രണ്ട് പ്രാവശ്യം ബംഗാളി, മലയാളം ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളും ഒരു പ്രാവശ്യം തെലുഗു, ഗുജറാത്തി ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളും ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
ബംഗാളി സംവിധായകനായി സത്യജിത് റേയുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ മൂന്ന് പ്രാവശ്യം ഓസ്കാർ പുരസ്കാരത്തിന് ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു. ഏറ്റവുമധികം ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടതും സത്യജിത് റേയുടെ ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ്. തമിഴ് അഭിനേതാവായ കമൽ ഹാസൻ പ്രവർത്തിച്ച 7 ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയുണ്ടായി. 1985, 1986, 1987 എന്നീ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ (തുടർച്ചയായി മൂന്ന് വർഷം) കമൽ ഹാസന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു. [13] ഇതിൽ ഒരെണ്ണം കമൽ ഹാസൻ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തതായിരുന്നു. [14] ആമിർ ഖാൻ അഭിനയിച്ച നാല് ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ് ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത്. ലഗാൻ (2001) എന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രം നാമനിർദ്ദേശം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.

most of the writers working in this so-called Hindi cinema write in Urdu: Gulzar, or Rajinder Singh Bedi or Inder Raj Anand or Rahi Masoom Raza or Vahajat Mirza, who wrote dialogue for films like Mughal-e-Azam and Gunga Jumna and Mother India.
