Thanks for your pointers. I tried adding a small paragraph about wiki. I am not sure how to save it as malayalam link itself. Finally I saved as wiki itself. Anyway, it was great fun typing something in Malayalam. I requested Cibu a few months back to fix the export to HTML bug and it is there. That was a great relief. As you rightly pointed out, Malayalam unicode support is not really impressive in Windows browsers, though IE is doing a better job than Mozilla and Opera. The screen shots of Linux show that Linux support it very well. Your idea of starting a yahoo group to store articles is a great idea. We could even get people organized for contributing to this effort.

Vinod, Inspired by your idea of starting a group, I initiated a group called mallupedians@yahoogroups.com. Please join. The main issue I find in Malayalam wikipedia is that our language is not as much powerful as English when it comes to technology. Many occations, I could not find a proper translation either, may be that I am forgetting Malayalam. In this group, in addition to storing the files, we could discuss such issues as well. Your thoughts are most welcome.
Yes, it was me who joined yesterday under "keralanow" userid. I too find "vivarasaankethika vidya" very odd and expressing only a percentage of the real meaning of information technology. However, many people refer to IT in that word, that's why I mentioned it there. I completely agree with you that Malayalam should imbibe English words if necessary, instead of circumventing to fabricate a meaningless word. Sanscritizing the word is even worse because it makes no sense for most of us. Currently I guess there are only 3 people in this project. Once more people join, the momentum will improve. Also, I think we should give an English link on how to contribute. Even before communicating with you, I visited ml.pedia many times, but could not get link on writing stuff there, and I had to quit. A quick link will make interested people join.

Thanks for your interest. Here are the simple steps
- Step 1
First do trials in 'Malayalam Wikipedia Sandbox' or 'English Wikipedia Sandbox'
- Step 2
Refer "How to edit a page" for tips.
- Step 3
Create a user id at 'Userlogin page'. This is optional, but highly recommended so that we can put comments on your talk page. And also allow you to use '~~~~' to add your sign, on any talk page, get credit for your work, etc.
- Step 4
Read about the issue that are specific to Malayalam Wikipedia at Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers
- Step 5
Read Wikipedia Policies at English Wikipedia
- Step 6
Now choose a topic and click on edit button and start adding what you know.
Additionally if you are using a Tabbed browser please make one of your homepage as

This will allow you to see most recent changes and catch the SPAMS and delete it

Im from kerala, it is very good step to creat a malayalam edition in wikipedia. But difficult to read the text, for some occasions we cannot even see a letter instead of 'blocks'. First we have to resolve problem. Really, i think we can solve it by adding the correct font with the page, downloading the page, the person can read it any way, can u do so?.
then after i m ready to contribute to this page, especially by translating articles of wiki's english edition. it is better to do so to get much more accuracy for our writings, try to do so and contact me . we have to get much more Kerala people to participate in this effort to create a free encyclopedia in our mother tongue, Anazcp contact me anazcp@yahoo.co.in +919847472802
