എറിക്കേൽസ്
തേയില ഉൾപ്പെടെ ദ്വിബീജപത്രസസ്യങ്ങളിലെ വൈവിധ്യമായ ഒരു നിരയാണ് എറിക്കേൽസ് (Ericales). ഇതിൽ മരങ്ങളും, കുറ്റിച്ചെടികളും , വലിയ ആരോഹികളും കാണുന്നു. പ്രകാശസംശ്ലേഷണം ചെയ്യുന്ന സസ്യങ്ങൾ കൂടാതെ ക്ലോറോഫിൽ കുറവുള്ള മൈകോഹെറ്റെറോട്രോഫിൿ (ഉദാ: Sarcodes sanguinea) ചെടികളും ഇരപിടിയന്മാരായചെടികളും ഇതിൽ കാണുന്നുണ്ട് (ഉദാ: Sarracenia ജനുസ്).

പല സ്പീഷീസുകൾക്കും അഞ്ച് ദളങ്ങൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു, പലപ്പോഴും ഒരുമിച്ചു കൂട്ടമായി വളരുന്നു. സബ്ക്ലാസ് സിംപെറ്റാലീയിലെ നിരയിൽ ഒരു സ്വഭാവസവിശേഷതയെന്ന നിലയിൽ ദളങ്ങളുടെ കൂടിച്ചേരൽ സ്ഥാപിക്കാൻ പാരമ്പര്യമായി ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.[2]
തുടർച്ചയായി എറിക്കേൽസുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന രസകരമായ ഒരു സവിശേഷതയാണ് മൈക്കോറൈസ. റൂട്ട് ഫംഗൈയോടൊപ്പം സിംബയോസിസ് നിരയിലെ പ്രതിനിധികളുടെ ഇടയിൽ ഇത് വളരെ സാധാരണമാണ്. അതിൽ മൂന്നുതരം മാത്രം എറിക്കലുകളിൽ കാണാൻ കഴിയും. (എറിക്കോയ്ഡ്, ആർബുട്ടോയ്ഡ്, മോണോട്രൊപോയിഡ് മൈക്കോറൈസ) ഇതുകൂടാതെ, അലുമിനിയം ശേഖരിക്കാൻ അസാധാരണമായ കഴിവുള്ള ക്രമത്തിൽ ചില കുടുംബങ്ങളിലെ നിരകൾ ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്..[3]
എറിക്കേൽസ് ലോകവ്യാപകമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു നിരയാണ്. ചില മധ്യരേഖാപദേശങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രമുള്ളപ്പോൾ ഇതിലെ മറ്റുചില അംഗങ്ങൾ ആർട്ടിക്ക് മേഖലയിൽ കാണുന്നു. ആകെയുള്ള ഏതാണ്ട് 8000 സ്പീഷിസുകളിൽ 2000-4000 എണ്ണം എറിക്കേസീ കുടുംബത്തിലാണ്.
സാമ്പത്തിക പ്രാധാന്യം തിരുത്തുക
ഈ നിരയിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉപയോഗപ്രദമായ സസ്യം തേയില (Camellia sinensis) ആണ്. ഭക്ഷ്യയോഗ്യമായ ഫലങ്ങളിൽ കിവിഫ്രൂട്ട് (Actinidia deliciosa), പെർസിമൺ (genus Diospyros), ബ്ലൂബെറി, ഹക്കിൾബെറി, ക്രാൻബെറി, ബ്രസീൽനട്ട്, മാമി സപ്പോട്ട എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭക്ഷണത്തിലെ കൊഴുപ്പിനായി സഹാറമേഖലയിലെ ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് ആൾക്കാർ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ഷിയ (Vitellaria paradoxa) ഈ നിരയിൽ നിന്നുമാണ്. സുന്ദരങ്ങളായ പുഷ്പങ്ങൾക്കായി കൃഷി ചെയ്യുന്ന അസാലിയ, റോഡോഡെണ്ട്രൺ, കമേലിയ, ഹീതർ, പോളിയാന്തസ്, സൈക്ലാമെൻ, ഫ്ലോക്സ്, ബിസി ലിസി എന്നിവയും എറിക്കേൽസ് നിരയിലെ കുടുംബങ്ങളിൽ ഉള്ളവരാണ്.
