You should probably request adminship at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions so you can translate the user interface into Malayalam and so you're able to delete and protect articles.

Following up on the discussion about Bishop Sebastian Mankuzhikary and Msgr. Mathew Mankuzhikary. I got a surprise e-mail from someone in India regarding the links and came across all the discussions. My name is Thomas Thottukadavil, a nephew of Bishop Sebastian Mankuzhikary and currently work in New York City. I am glad that the Internet is opening up the discussions about some people who have left a legacy in this world. ചില ലേഖനങ്ങൾ താങ്കൾ "വിക്കിഫൈ" ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ piped links ഉപയോഗിച്ചു കാണുന്നില്ല. പിന്നീട് റീഡയേറക്ടുകളെ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നതായും കാണുന്നു. ഇതിനു പ്രത്യേകിച്ചു വല്ല കാരണങ്ങളുമുണ്ടോ?

One reason why iventors of WWW used HTML and URL is to make source more human readable. But in course of time people started to make(or tool generated) complex web pages and defeated the purpose. So BBCode and Wiki TAG were invented to achieve that. Hence the principle I follow is to make neat and tidy less confusing source, when I do HTML or Wiki TAG or coding in any programming language.
In English wikipedia this wont be much problem while wikifyng a words in an article, but in Malayalam we have to make every other word double with piping character. Hence I opt for a #REDIRECT option till a majority of other authors do/want the other way.
Also I dont want impose my idea on others. So if somebody took pain to use piping character in any link I wikify, I am planning not change it back to #REDIRECT.

In the front page I have corrected the spelling mistake of "വിക്കിപീടിയ". Same word written in different forms in different places of the same page.
I'm sure that my browser is displaying unicode correctly because I use latest version of Karthika font(WinXP-sp2) and latest Uniscribe processor (usp10.dll) from Microsoft Volt Community.

BTW, spelling issue warning is only for new users.
A general suggestion, try avoiding HTML tags (like BR), use it only when there is no WIKI alternative. To sign ur name u can use shortcuts ~~~ or ~~~~. u can see more tricks at How to edit a page

I came to know wikipedia only before some months. After that being a malayalee. I just want to raise the number of articles in malayalam wikipedia. I will look in to the wiki editing tutorial to get more idea about it. regards, sarath
Hi! I wonder if you (or any other Malayalam-speaking wikipedian reading this, but you appear to be one of the few active contributors here) could look at two articles on the English Wikipedia, which have been nominated for deletion:
- Bishop Sebastian Mankuzhikary
- Monsignor Matthew Mankuzhikary
Both were priests in the Syro-Malabar church and the former was the nephew of the latter. I have argued for keeping at least the first of these. I believe the scarcity of data brought forward to verify the information is due to none (including myself) of those participating in the discussion having any knowledge of Malayalam. / Tupsharru 10:04, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC) (I just registered on ml for this and won't read my talkpage here... ;-) )

I was wondering why you couldn't be a Sysop with Malayalam. I have created a new Project Page for nominations. I request you to go there and nominate yourself for Sysop status, so that you could be a Sysop soon. FYI we need not go to Metawiki for nominations anymore, since we are granted Bureaucrat status. As Shiju explained, this is for providing a shorter/cleaner url to reach from other sites to Malayalam wikipedia. As well as to make it easier for people to send it as links in emails.
It is not possible to read http://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B4%87%E0%B4%A8%E0%B5%8D%E0%B4%A4%E0%B5%8D%E0%B4%AF , as well it is very long, chance of it getting wrong is more than http://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/India getting wrong.
We can provide it in a page using {{prettyurl|india}} and, it is long been asked feature.

All the above link are talking about central gov. official language (national language), ie, the language to be used in official communication. that is why you dont see no other scheduled languages referenced. हिन्दी हमारा राष्ट्र्भाषा है। That is misrepresentation, I also studied the same, and told others the same. But later came to know what is the difference between ഔദ്യോഗിക ഭാഷ and രാഷ്ട്രഭാ and scheduled languages.
Misrepresentation means it is not telling, there is no national language per Indian constitution. Also not telling, Position of Indian parliament is that all Indian languages are national languages of India.
From hi:हिन्दी Hindi wikipedia, हिन्दी सांवैधानिक तौर पर भारत की प्रथम राजभाषा है I dont know meaning of सांवैधानिक तौर, (i think it mean "in/among commons") but rest says it is प्रथम राजभाषा , means main National language, which is NOT a misrepresentation as per position of Indian parliament.
BTW: At http://rajbhasha.nic.in/dolacteng.htm did you noticed "2. Definitions.- (b) "Hindi" means Hindi in Devanagari Script." That is because of the Roman Hindi and Urdu, before Hindi adopted a script, ie Devanagari Script of Sanskrit, Hindi was written using English letters or in arabic which became Urdu. Even though common people dont know Roman Hindi, in Indian military Roman Hindi is still in use. Issue 1, “Hindi and English are used by the Union Government of India for official purposes, wherein Hindi has a de jure priority“ this is applicable only to communication send to state in region A, for states in region B Hindi or English are equal, for region C it is English. Issue 2, who ever wrote in hindi wiki used राजभाषा, instead of राष्ट्र्भाषा we need to check whether राजभाषा means govt. language, ie language for ruling. As "British राज", means British Rule.
Also dont take every thing you see at nic.in site as granted. They are true most time, but some times there are misinterpretations. Most are written by junior staffs with only some review.

This for providing a shorter/cleaner url to reach from other sites(non wikipedia) to Malayalam wikipedia.
As well as to make it easier for people to send it as links in emails, to give link over phone, or when during chat/announcement away from computer/internet access.
It is not possible to read out http://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B4%87%E0%B4%A8%E0%B5%8D%E0%B4%A4%E0%B5%8D%E0%B4%AF , as well it is very long, chance of it getting wrong is more than http://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/India getting wrong.
Usage example: In India page we can provide it in a page using {{prettyurl|india}}.
Some thing similar It in English wiki is en:Wikipedia:Shortcut, see example en:P:UK, en:WP:CITE, en:WP:SELF you will see a shortcut box at left top of the page. Clicking on it wont give any noticeable change, they use it reduce size of the text in while typing and displaying.

try to answer it from a layman's stand point. he sees കുറുക്കുവഴി in a page eg: കൊഴിക്കോട് ജില്ല. he thinks there is a കുറുക്കു വഴി. and clicks on it and he gets only 'redirected from calicut district' additional to what he already saw. There seem to be no obvious change. i think you either should keep it at the end of the page so that no one clicks it or just mask it so that it won't appear. i haven't seen anything like that in en:wiki. can you show my ignorant eyes???

I just can't see anything like that in a en:wiki article. The link that you gave lead to the short curt pages describing why and how a shortcurt works. That not what I intended to say. if you have time please explaing what is the sole purpose of the കുറുക്കുവഴി. if it redirects to the same page.

Hi Bijee, My Name is Rajesh Varma. I see that you are contributing a lot to the Malayalam Wiktionary. I would like to work towards a more standardized look and feel based on the English Wiktionary. I had a few questions on - how to create templates (The English Wiktionary seems to be using this a lot as opposed to the "phalakam"s that you are using in Malayalam). - why the English translations in Malayalam dictionary are linking to the English Wiktionary. If you check the translation for any word in English Wiktionary, you can see that they link to the words in English Wiktionary itself.
