സോഡിയം കാർബണേറ്റ്.(അലക്ക് കാരം,വാഷിങ് സോഡ,സോഡ ആഷ്):-കാർബോണിക് ആസിഡിന്റെ സോഡിയം ലവണം.രാസ സൂത്രം Na2CO3. ജലത്തിൽ നന്നായി ലയിക്കുന്നു. പ്രകൃതിയിൽ പരൽ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള ഹെപ്റ്റാ ഹൈഡ്രേറ്റായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.ശുദ്ധമായ സോഡിയം കാർബണേറ്റ് വെളുത്ത ഗന്ധരഹിതമായ പൗഡറാണ്. കടുത്ത ക്ഷാരരുചിയുണ്ട്. ലായിനി ക്ഷാര സ്വഭാവമുള്ളതാണ്. ഗാഢജലത്തെ മൃദുവാക്കാൻ സാധാരണയായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.
