ഒരു മാങ്ങയുടെ കഥ

കശുവണ്ടി കുടുംബമായ അനക്കാർഡിയേസിയിലെ ഒരു ജനുസ്സാണ് മാംഗിഫെറ (Mangifera). ഇതിൽ ഏകദേശം 69 സ്പീഷിസുകളുണ്ട്, ഇവയിൽ ഏറ്റവും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് മാങ്ങയാണ് (മംഗിഫെറ ഇൻഡിക്ക). ഉപ ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ, ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ ദക്ഷിണേഷ്യ, തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലാണ്, ഇവയുടേ വൈവിധ്യം ഏറ്റവുമധികമുള്ളത്. ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ സ്പീഷിസുകൾ ഇന്ത്യയിലാണ് ഉള്ളത്.[3] താഴ്ന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ മഴക്കാടുകളിലെ മേലാപ്പ് മരങ്ങളാണ് ഇവ മിക്കവയും. 30–40 m (98–131 ft) ഉയരം വരെ ഇവ എത്താറുണ്ട്.

ഏഷ്യയിലും മറ്റിടങ്ങളിലും മാംഗിഫെറ സ്പീഷിസുകൾ വ്യാപകമായി കൃഷിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ ജനുസ്സിലെ ഇരുപത്തിയേഴിലധികം സ്പീഷിസുകളിൽ ഭക്ഷ്യയോഗ്യമായ, മാംസളമായ പഴങ്ങൾ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് മാമ്പഴം (മാംഗിഫെറ ഇൻഡിക്ക) ഉണ്ടാവുന്നവയാണ്. എം. ഫൊയിറ്റിഡ പോലുള്ളവ അച്ചാർ ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന പഴങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നു. [4]

ഫോസിൽ റെക്കോർഡ് തിരുത്തുക

മാംഗിഫെറയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ആദ്യകാല ഫോസിൽ ഇനം വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നും upper Paleocene -ൽ ലഭിച്ച Eomangiferophyllum damalgiriense ആണ്. ജപ്പാനിൽ നിന്നും Paleocene ലും ജർമനിയിൽ നിന്നും Eocene -ലും ഇവയുടെ ഇലകൾ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഉത്തര തായ്‌ലാന്റിൽ നിന്നും മാംഗിഫെറയുടെ ഇലയോടു സദൃശയമുള്ളവ Oligocene അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ആദ്യ Miocene ലെ എക്കൽപ്പാളികളിൽ നിന്നും ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.[5][6]

മാങ്ങയുടെ അണ്ടി, തൊലി തുടങ്ങിയ ഭാഗങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉയർന്ന പ്രവർത്തനവും പോഷകശേഷിയുമുണ്ട്. ഉയർന്ന ആന്റിഓക്‌സിഡന്റ് പ്രവർത്തനമുള്ള പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ബയോ ആക്റ്റീവ് സംയുക്തങ്ങൾ, സ്വീകാര്യമായ ശാരീരികവും രാസപരവുമായ സ്വഭാവമുള്ള ലിപിഡുകൾ (ട്രാൻസ് ഫാറ്റി ആസിഡുകൾ ഇല്ലാത്തത്), ഉയർന്ന പ്രോട്ടീൻ ഉള്ളടക്കം എന്നിവ മാമ്പഴത്തിൽ അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. [7] മാങ്ങ തൊലിയിൽ ധാരാളം ആന്റിഓക്‌സിഡന്റുകളും ഭക്ഷണ നാരുകളും അടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട് . [8]
