ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധത്തിനെതിരെ 1915-ൽ നെതർലാൻഡിലെ ഹേഗിൽ നടന്ന അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വനിതാ കോൺഗ്രസിൽ നിന്ന് WILPF വികസിക്കുകയും അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര സമാധാനത്തിനുള്ള അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വനിതാ സമിതി രൂപീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. [1] 1919 വരെ WILPF എന്ന പേര് തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്നില്ല.[2][3]

ആദ്യത്തെ WILPF പ്രസിഡന്റ് ജെയ്ൻ ആഡംസ് മുമ്പ് അമേരിക്കയിൽ വുമൺസ് പീസ് പാർട്ടി സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരുന്നു. 1915 ജനുവരിയിൽ, ഈ സംഘം പിന്നീട് WILPF ന്റെ യുഎസ് വിഭാഗമായി.
