തേൻകിളിമാടൻ[2] [3][4][5] അഥവാ വാഴക്കിളിയുടെ[4] ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലെ പേര് Little Spiderhunter എന്നാണ്. ശാസ്ത്രീയമ്നാമം Arachnothera longirostra എന്നും.

തെക്ക്, തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യയിലെ ഈർപ്പമുള്ള കാടുകളിൽ ഇവയെ കാണുന്നു. മറ്റു തേൻകിളി കളിൽ നിന്നും വ്യത്യസ്തമായി പൂവനും പിടയും ഒറെ നിറക്കാരാണ്. തേനുള്ള പൂക്കളുള്ള ചെടികളുടെ അടുത്ത് ഒറ്റയ്ക്കൊ കൂട്ടമായോ കാണുന്നു.

പിടയ്ക്ക് മങ്ങിയ അടിവശമാണുള്ളത്. നീളമുള്ള കൊക്കുകൾകൊണ്ട് ഇവയെ പെട്ടെന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിയാം. പൂവന്റെ കൊക്കിന് കറുപ്പുനിറമാണ്.[6]

ഇവ കാട്ടുവാഴകളിലും[8] ഇഞ്ചിയുടെ കുടുംബത്തില്പെട്ട പല ചെടികളിലും[9] പരാഗണം നടത്തുന്നവയാണ്. പഞ്ഞിമരത്തിൽ ( Indian silk cotton tree) തേൻ കുടിക്കാൻ എത്താറുണ്ട്.[10][11] വനമേഖലയിലെ തോട്ടങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ പലപ്പോഴും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.[12][13] വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ മർച്ച് മുതൽ സെപ്തംബർ വരെയും (മെയ് മുതൽ ആഗസ്റ്റ് വരെ പ്രധാനമായും) തെക്കേഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഡിസംബർ മുതൽ ആഗസ്റ്റ് വരേയുമാണ് പ്രജനന കാലം. [14] വാഴ ഇലപോലെ വീതിയുള്ള ഇലയുടെ അടിയിൽ ഞാന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന കൂടുകളാണ്. [15]

ബംഗ്ലാദേശ്, ഭൂട്ടാൻ, ബ്രുണൈ, കമ്പോഡിയ, ചൈന, ഇന്ത്യ, ഇന്തോനേഷ്യ, ലാവോസ്, മലയേഷ്യ, മ്യാൻമാർ, നേപ്പാൾ, ഫിലിപ്പീൻസ്, തായ്ലന്റ്, വിയറ്റ്നാം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ കാണുന്നു. മറ്റുള്ളവയുമായി ചേരാത്ത, ഇന്ത്യയിൽ പൂർവഘട്ടത്തിലും [16] വിശാഖപട്ടണത്തും ഒഡീഷയുടെ ഭഗങ്ങളിലും [17]) പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലും വേറെ ഇനമുണ്ട്..[14]

ഈർപ്പമുള്ള കാടുകളിലെ മരത്തലപ്പുകൾക്ക് താഴെയും തെങ്കിട്ടാവുന്ന പൂക്കളുള്ള തോട്ടങ്ങളിലും കാണാം.[18]
