വേൽസ്

യുണൈറ്റഡ് കിങ്ഡത്തിലെ ഒരു രാജ്യമാണ് വേൽസ്. കിഴക്കേ അതിർത്തിയിൽ ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടും, പടിഞ്ഞാറേ അതിർത്തിയിൽ ഐറിഷ് കടലുമുണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷാണ് പരക്കെ സംസാരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതെങ്കിലും വേൽസിനു തനതായ ഒരു ഭാഷയുണ്ട്. അതിനെ വെൽഷ് എന്ന് പറയുന്നു. വെൽഷ് ജനത ഒരു കെൽറ്റിക് വംശമാണ്. അഞ്ചാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ബ്രിട്ടണിൽ റോമൻ അധീശത്വം അവസാനിച്ചതോടെയാണ് വേൽസ് ഒരു രാജ്യമായി ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞു വന്നത്. പതിനഞ്ചാം നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുതൽ വേൽസ് ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിന്റെ അധീനതയിലാണ്.
