ആവാസം
തിരുത്തുകജലവുമായി വളരെയധികം ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടാണ് ഈ പക്ഷി ജീവിക്കുന്നത്. ജലാശയത്തിനു പതിനഞ്ച് മീറ്റർ ചുറ്റളവിൽ ഉള്ള ഇടങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ കൂട് നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നു. ഇവയെ ജലാശയങ്ങൾക്ക് 50 മീറ്ററിൽ അധികം ദൂരെ ആയി കാണുവാനും കഴിയില്ല. ചതുപ്പുകൾ പോലെയുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുമുള്ള പ്രാണികൾ ആണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രധാന ആഹാരം.
ഇവയുടെ ആവാസ സ്ഥാനങ്ങളായ തണ്ണീർത്തടങ്ങൾ ഇന്ന് വളരെ അധികം ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നു.
