പ്രജനന കാലത്ത് പൂവന്റെ തല, കഴുത്ത്, നെഞ്ച് എന്നിവ സ്വർണ്ണ നിറം സ്വർണ്ണനിറം കലർന്ന ഓറഞ്ചു നിറമായിരിക്കും. വാലു് തണുപ്പുകാലത്തെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് ചെറുതാണ്.
പക്ഷികളിലെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല തുന്നൽക്കാരനാണ്. ചിലന്തി വലയുടെ നൂലുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് കൂട് നെയ്യുന്നത്.
