ഡി.ടി.എച്ച് ടി.വി എന്നത് ഉപഗ്രഹങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും നേരിട്ട് സിഗ്നലുകൾ വീടുകളിലേക്ക് സ്വീകരിക്കുന്ന രീതിയിലുള്ള സംവിധാനമാണ്.2000 നവംബറിലാണ് ഈ സംവിധാനം ഭാരത സർക്കാർ അംഗീകരിച്ചത്. 2003 ഒക്ടോബർ 2 ന് ആരംഭിച്ച ഡിഷ് ടിവിയാണ് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യ ഡി.ടി.എച്ച് സേവന ദാതാവ്. 2004 ഡിസംബറിൽ പ്രസാർ ഭാരതി അവതരിപ്പിച്ച ദൂരദർശന്റെ ഡി.ഡി ഫ്രീ ഡിഷ് ആണ് ആദ്യത്തെ സൗജന്യ ടി.വി. സംവിധാനമൊരുക്കിയത്. .[1]സ്വകാര്യ ഡി.ടി.എച്ച് സേവനദാതാക്കൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെ ഇന്റർ ഓപ്പറബിലിറ്റി സൗകര്യമുള്ള ഫ്രീടു എയർ സെറ്റ്ടോപ്പ് ബോക്സുകൾ ഉപഭോക്താക്കൾക്ക് നൽകണമെന്ന് സർക്കാർ ഗൈഡ് ലൈനിൽ നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും നിലവിൽ ഒരു കമ്പനിയും ഈ നിർദ്ദേശം പാലിക്കുന്നില്ല.https://mib.gov.in/sites/default/files/GuidelinesforDTHServiceDated15.3.2001.pdf
