Greater bird-of-paradise (Paradisaea apoda) പാരഡൈസീ കുടുംബത്തിൽ പെട്ട ബേർഡ്-ഓഫ്-പാരഡൈസ് ആണ്. കാൾ ലിന്നേയസ് ഈ സ്പീഷീസിനെ പാരഡൈസീ അപ്പോഡ, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ "legless bird-of-paradise" എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു, കാരണം യൂറോപ്പിലെ പ്രാരംഭ വ്യാപാരക്കാർ തദ്ദേശീകളായ ഈ പക്ഷികളുടെ ചിറകുകളും കാലുകൾ ഇല്ലാതെ തൊലിമാത്രം വ്യാപാരം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഈ പക്ഷികൾ പറുദീസയിലെ സുന്ദരമായ സന്ദർശകരായിരുന്നു എന്ന തെറ്റിദ്ധാരണകൾക്ക് കാരണമായിരുന്നു.
