ഗോളുണ്ട എലി
മുറിഡേ എന്ന കരണ്ടുതീനി കുടുംബത്തിലെ ഗോളുണ്ട ജനുസിൽ ഇന്ന് ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പുള്ള ഏക സ്പീഷിസ് ആണ് ഗോളുണ്ട എലി[2] (Indian bush rat).[3]

ശ്രീലങ്കയിലും കാണുന്ന ഇവ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ എല്ലായിടത്തുമുണ്ട്. പതിനൊന്നോളം ഉപസ്പീഷിസുകളെ ഇതുവരെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്.[4][5]
കന്നഡ പേരായ ഗോളുണ്ടയിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഈ ജനുസ് നാമം ഉണ്ടായത്. സ്പീഷിസ് നാമം സർ വാൾട്ടർ എലിയട്ടിന്റെ പേരിൽ നിന്നുമാണ് വന്നത്.[6] തെക്കേ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നുമാണ് ഈ സ്പീഷിസ് നാമം വന്നത്. മറ്റു രൂപങ്ങളിൽ ചിലത്. limitaris (വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറ്), paupera (പഞ്ചാബ്), watsoni (സിന്ധ്), gujerati (ഗുജറാത്ത്), bombax (മുംബൈ), coraginis (കൂർഗ്), coffaeus (ശ്രീലങ്ക), newera (ശ്രീലങ്ക), myiothrix (നേപ്പാൾ) and coenosa (ഭൂട്ടാൻ, ഡുവാർസ്, ഹാസിമാര).[5] ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ സിംഹളത്തിൽ ഇതിനെ nka පදුරු මීයා എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു.

ഈ ജീവിയുടെ ശരീരത്തിന്റെ നീളം 12-14 സെന്റീമീറ്ററാണ്. വാൽ 9-11 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ.
