തെക്കുകിഴക്കേ ഏഷ്യയിൽ ഇന്തോ-ചൈനയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കംബോഡിയയുടെ ചരിത്രം ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഗരികതയുടെ ചരിത്രവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടുകിടക്കുന്നു[1][2] ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ കംബോഡിയൻ പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ഘടനയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ആദ്യകാല പരാമർശങ്ങളിൽ, ഒന്നാം നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുതൽ ആറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുവരെയുള്ള ചൈനീസ് കാലാനുക്രമ ചരിതത്തിൽ ഫൂനാനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിശദമായ വിവരണങ്ങളിൽ പ്രതിപാദിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. മെകോങ് നദിക്കരയിൽ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചതും[3] ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ ഹൈന്ദവ രാജ്യവുമായ ഫൂനാൻ, ഇന്ത്യയുമായി സമുദ്രവ്യാപാരവും വ്യാപരബന്ധങ്ങളും നടത്തിയിരുന്നു.[4] ആറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ ചൈനീസ് കാലാനുക്രമ ചരിതത്തിൽ ഫൂനാനുശേഷം സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടതും ഇന്തോ-ചൈനയിൽ ഒന്നിലധികം ഭരണകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളോടെ കൂടുതൽ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വ്യാപിച്ചതുമായ ചെൻല അഥവാ ഷെൻല എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സംസ്കാരത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രതിപാദിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.[5][6]


ഫുനാൻ സാമ്രാജ്യം (എ.ഡി. ഒന്നാം നൂറ്റാണ്ട്- 550/627) തിരുത്തുക

ചൈനീസ് കാലാനുക്രമ രേഖകളിൽ കംബോഡിയൻ, വിയറ്റ്നാമീസ് പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന[7] ഉയർന്ന ജനസാന്ദ്രതതയുള്ളതും ആവശ്യത്തിലധികം ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങൾ ഉൽപാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും ഇന്ത്യൻ മതവിശ്വാസങ്ങൾ പിന്തുടർന്നിരുന്നതുമായ ഫുനാൻ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ച്[8][9] വിശദമായി പ്രതിപാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മെകോങ്, ബസാക് നദികളെ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ച് മതിലുകളും കിടങ്ങുകളും ഉള്ള നഗരങ്ങൾ[10] ഫുനാൻ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിൽ നിലനിന്നിരുന്നു.

രണ്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടോടെ ഇന്തോചൈനയുടെ തന്ത്രപ്രധാനമായ തീരവും വാണിജ്യപാതകളും ഫുനാൻ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലായി. ഇന്ത്യൻ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിലെ വാണിജ്യപാതകളിലൂടെ സംസ്കാരവും മതചിന്തകളും ഫുനാനിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നു. സംസ്കൃതം പാലി ഭാഷക്ക് മേൽ ആധിപത്യം സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതിനു മുമ്പേ ബി.സി അഞ്ചാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽത്തന്നെ ഇന്ത്യയുമായി ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിനു വാണിജ്യബന്ധം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.[4] ഖ്‌മെർ ഭാഷയുടെ ആദ്യരൂപമായിരുന്ന ഫുനാൻ ഭാഷയുടെ ലിപി സംസ്കൃതമായിരുന്നു.[11]

ചെൻല സാമ്രാജ്യം(ആറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ട് - 802) തിരുത്തുക

ചൈനയിലെ സൂയ് രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ക്രിസ്തുവർഷം 616 അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 617-ൽ ചെൻല എന്ന രാജ്യം ചൈനയിലേക്ക് ഒരു പ്രതിനിധിയെ അയച്ചതായി രേഖകളുണ്ട്. ചെൻല ഫുനാന്റെ ഒരു സാമന്തരാജ്യമായിരുന്നുവെന്നും അവിടത്തെ ഭരണാധികാരി കീഴിൽ ചിത്രസേന മഹേന്ദ്രവർമ്മൻ ഫുനാനെ കീഴടക്കി സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം നേടി എന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.[12]

ചെൻലയുടെ ഭരണകേന്ദ്രം ഇന്നത്തെ ആധുനിക ലാവോസ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രദേശത്തിലായിരുന്നു എന്ന ആശയവും ചില ചരിത്രകാരന്മാർ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. [13]അങ്കോർ കംബോഡിയയ്ക്ക് മുമ്പുള്ള ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ചരിത്ര ലിഖിതമായതും, 667 എ.ഡി.യിൽ ബാ ഫ്നാമിൽ നിന്നുള്ളതുമായ കെ 53 എന്ന ലിഖിതം, രാഷ്ട്രീയ അനാസ്ഥയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഇവിടത്തെ രാജാക്കന്മാരായ രുദ്രവർമ്മൻ, ഭാവവർമൻ ഒന്നാമൻ, മഹേന്ദ്രവർമ്മൻചിത്രസേന, ഈശാനവർമൻ, ജയവർമ്മൻ ഒന്നാമൻ എന്നിവരുടെ തുടർച്ചയായ ഭരണം രാഷ്ട്രീയ അസ്ഥിരതയെ കാണിക്കുന്നില്ല. ടാങ് ചരിത്രം വിവരിക്കുന്ന (Xīn Tángshū) പുസ്തകത്തിൽ, ക്രിസ്തുവർഷം 706-നു ശേഷം ഉത്തര ചെൻല, ദക്ഷിണ ചെൻല എന്നിങ്ങനെ വിഭജിക്കപ്പെട്ടുവെന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നു[14]

രാഷ്ട്രീയ സമഗ്രതയും ഭരണപരമായ സ്ഥിരതയുമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ആറ് നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിലെ ഖമർ സാമ്രാജ്യ ഭരണകാലം കംബോഡിയൻ സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെ സുവർണ്ണ കാലഘട്ടമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. വ്യവസായ വിപ്ലവത്തിനുമുമ്പെ തെക്ക് കിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യയുടെ നാഗരികത അത്യുന്നതിയിതിൽ എത്തിയത് ഖമർ ഭരണകാലത്താണ്.[15]

എട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ചെൻല സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങൾക്ക് മേൽ ആധിപത്യം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു കൊണ്ടാണ് ഖമർ ഉയർന്നുവന്നത്.[16] എട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ അവസാനത്തോടെ ശ്രീവിജയ സാമ്രാജ്യവും ജാവയിലെ ശൈലേന്ദ്ര രാജവംശവും ചെൻലയുടെ താഴത്തെ ഭാഗങ്ങൾ കീഴടക്കിയിരുന്നു. ചെൻലയുടെ ഭരണാധികാരിയായ ജയവർമൻ രണ്ടാമൻ 802-ൽ കുലെൻ പർവ്വതത്തിൽ (മഹേന്ദ്ര പർവ്വതം) സ്ഥാനാരോഹണച്ചടങ്ങ് നടത്തി ദേവരാജൻ (ദൈവ-രാജാവ്)ആയി സ്വയം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം ഒരേ സമയം ശൈലേന്ദ്രയിൽ നിന്നും ശ്രീവിജയയിൽ നിന്നും സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. ഇന്നത്തെ പട്ടണമായ റോളൂസിനടുത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം അങ്കോറിയൻ പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ഹരിഹാരാലയം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു..[17]
