പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ഇന്ത്യ

പോർച്ചുഗലിൽ നിന്നും കടൽമാർഗ്ഗം ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലേക്ക് വഴികണ്ടുപിടിച്ച് ആറു വർഷത്തിനുശേഷം പോർച്ചുഗലിന്റെ പുറമെയുള്ള സ്ഥലങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം ഭരിക്കാൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ അധികാരസ്ഥാനമാണ് പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ഇന്ത്യ (Portuguese India) എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ആദ്യ വൈസ്രോയിയായ ഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോ ഡി അൽമേഡ ഇതിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനം കൊച്ചിയിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. പിന്നീടു വന്ന പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ഗവർണ്ണർമാരെല്ലാം വൈസ്രോയി റാങ്കിൽ ഉള്ളവർ ആയിരുന്നില്ല. 1510 -നു ശേഷം തലസ്ഥാനം ഗോവയിലേക്കു മാറ്റി. 18 -ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുവരെ ഇന്ത്യൻ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിലെ, തെക്കേ ആഫ്രിക്ക മുതൽ തെക്കേ ഏഷ്യവരെയുള്ള പോർച്ചുഗീസ് പ്രദേശങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം ഭരിച്ചിരുന്നത് ഗോവയിലെ ഗവർണ്ണർ ആയിരുന്നു. 1752 -ൽ മൊസാംബിക്കിന് പ്രത്യേകമായി ഒരു ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ഉണ്ടാക്കി. 1844 -ൽ മാകാവു, സോലോർ, ടിമോർ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളെ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നും ഭരിക്കുന്നത് അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് അവരുടെ അധികാരം മലബാർ തീരത്തു മാത്രമായി ഒതുങ്ങി.
