പുള്ളിമാൻ
മാൻ വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽപ്പെടുന്ന സസ്യഭുക്കായ പുള്ളിമാൻ[2] (Axis axis),[3]ഇന്ത്യ , ശ്രീലങ്ക, നേപ്പാൾ,ബംഗ്ലാദേശ്, ഭൂട്ടാൻ, പാകിസ്താൻ തുടങ്ങിയ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ മരങ്ങൾ ധാരാളമുള്ള കാടുകളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ശരീരത്തിൽ വെള്ള നിറത്തിൽ പുള്ളികളുള്ളതിനാലാണ് ഇവയ്ക്ക് ഈ പേരു വന്നത്.

ശരീരം തിരുത്തുക
പിങ്ക് നിറത്തിൽ വെളുത്ത പുള്ളികൾ നിറഞ്ഞ തുകലും, രണ്ടര അടിയോളം നീളവും തറയിൽനിന്ന് മൂന്നടിയോളം ഉയരത്തിൽ നിൽക്കുവാനും ഇവയ്ക്ക് കഴിയും. 85 കിലോയോളം തൂക്കവുമുണ്ട്. ആൺ മാനുകൾക്ക് പെൺ മാനുകളേക്കാൾ തൂക്കമുണ്ടാകും. 8 മുതൽ 14 വർഷം വരെ ജീവിതകാലയളവും കാണുന്നു.
പരിതഃസ്ഥിതി തിരുത്തുക
തുറസ്സായ പുൽമേടുകളിലും, അർദ്ധ നിത്യഹരിത വനങ്ങളിലും കൂട്ടമായി ഇവയെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു[4]. ഇവയെ കൂടുതൽ എണ്ണത്തിൽ കാണാൻ കഴിയുന്നത് ഇന്ത്യൻ വനാന്തരങ്ങളിൽ നീളമുള്ള പുല്ലുകളും കുറ്റിച്ചെടികളും സുലഭമായ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലാണ്.[5] കുറുക്കൻ, പുലി, കടുവ, സിംഹം എന്നിവ ഇവയെ പ്രധാനമായും ഭക്ഷണത്തിനായ് വേട്ടയാടുന്നു. വേട്ടയാടലിൽ നിന്നും ഇവ ഓടിയാണ് രക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത്, ഇവയ്ക്ക് 65 km/h വേഗത്തിൽ ഓടാൻ കഴിയും.[6][7]. നേരിട്ടുള്ള സൂര്യതാപം ഏൽക്കാതിരിക്കാൻ ഇവ മരങ്ങൾ തിങ്ങി നിറഞ്ഞ പ്രദേശത്തിലെ തണൽ ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.[5][4]
