പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലും മധ്യേ ഇന്ത്യയിലും ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ മേഖലയിലും ശ്രീലങ്കയിലുമാണ് ഇവയെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്.

വരണ്ടയിടങ്ങളാണ് ഇവയ്ക്ക് കൂടുതൽ ഇഷ്ടം. മുളങ്കാടുകളിലും കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളും ആണ് പ്രധാന വാസസ്ഥലങ്ങൾ.

ചിറകുപുറത്തിനു വയലറ്റ് കലർന്ന മങ്ങിയ നീലനിറമാണ്.പെൺശലഭത്തിന്റെ തവിട്ട് നിറവുമാണ്.പിൻ ചിറകിന്റെ പുറത്ത് അറ്റത്തായി കാണുന്ന കറുത്തപുള്ളികൾക്ക് ഒരേവലിപ്പമാണ്.വെളുത്ത വലയമണിഞ്ഞ കറുത്തപുള്ളികളും ഇവയ്ക്കുണ്ട്.

മുട്ട തിരുത്തുക

വെളുത്തനിറത്തിലുള്ളതാണ് മുട്ട. വരിഞ്ഞയുടൻ ശലഭപ്പുഴുവിനു പിങ്ക് നിറമായിരിയ്ക്കും. പിന്നീട് ശലഭപ്പുഴു പച്ചയായിത്തീരും.
