ലോകത്ത് തെക്കേ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ മാത്രം കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു തനതു(Endemic) പൂമ്പാറ്റയാണ് ശീതള ശരവേഗൻ ( Thoressa sitala).^[1]^[2]^[3] കേരളം, തമിഴ്നാട്, കർണാടകം എന്നീ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ പശ്ചിമഘട്ടമേഖലകളിലാണ് ഇതിനെ കണ്ടെത്താനാകുക. നിത്യഹരിതവനങ്ങളിലും നല്ല മഴകിട്ടുന്ന കാടുകളിലുമാണ് ഇവയുടെ താവളങ്ങൾ. ശരവേഗത്തിലാണ് ഇവയുടെ പറക്കൽ.^[4]^[5]

ശരീരപ്രകൃതി തിരുത്തുക

ആണിന്റെ ചിറകുപുറത്തിൻ കടും തവിട്ടുനിറമാണ്. മൂന്ന് ജോടിയായി മഞ്ഞപ്പുള്ളികൾ ചിറകിന്റെ പുറത്ത് കാണാം. അർധതാര്യമായ പുള്ളികളാണിവ. പിൻചിറകിന്റെ മധ്യത്തിൽ ചെമ്പൻ രോമങ്ങൾ കാണാം. മുൻചിറകിന്റെ അടിവശത്തിനും തവിട്ടുനിറമാണ്. ചിറകറ്റത്ത് രോമങ്ങളുടെ നിരകാണാം. ആണിന്റെ മുൻചിറകിന്റെ പുറത്ത് മങ്ങിയ ഒരു കരയുണ്ട്.
