വരിയുപ്പന്റെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലെ പേര് Lesser Coucal , എന്നൊക്കെയാണ്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Centropus bengalensisഎന്നും ആണ്. കുയിലിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽപെട്ട ഈ പക്ഷി സ്വന്തം കൂട്ടിലാണ് മുട്ടയിടുന്നത്.
