വയലാറ്റ
ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലും അടുത്ത പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും കാണുന്ന ഒരു പക്ഷിയാണ്‌ വയലാറ്റ. വയലാറ്റയെ ആംഗലഭാഷയിൽ Indian silverbill എന്നും white-throated munia എന്നും വിളിക്കുന്നു.ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Lonchura malabarica എന്നാണ്. .

11-11.5 സെ.മീ. നീളമുണ്ട്.നീണ്ടതും കുമ്പിൽ പോലുള്ളതും ചാര നിറത്തിലുള്ള കൊക്കുണ്ട്. തവിട്ടു നിറമുള്ള മുകൾ വശം വെള്ള അടിവശവും. ഇരുണ്ട ചിറകുകൾ ഉണ്ട്. വാലിനു കറുത്ത നിറം.മുതുകിൽ വെളുപ്പ്. പൂവനും പിടയും ഒരു പോലെയിരിക്കും. നീലം കുഞ്ഞ വാലാണ്. വാൽ കൂർത്തതാണ്. പ്രായമാവാത്തവയ്ക്ക് മങ്ങിയ നിറമാണ്.

വിത്തുകളാണ് പ്രധാന ഭക്ഷണമെങ്കിലും പ്രാണികളേയും, തേനും ഭക്ഷിക്കും[2]<[3]

ഇവയെ പുൽമേടുകളിലും കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളിലും ചിലപ്പോൾ ജലാശയങ്ങൾക്ക് അടുത്തും കാണാറുണ്ട്.[4] ഇവയെ പാകിസ്താൻ, നേപ്പാൾ, ബംഗ്ലാദേശ്, ശ്രീലങ്ക, ഇറാൻ, ഇസ്രായേൽ, സൗദി അറേബ്യ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ കാണുന്നു.[5][6]
