വെള്ളക്കാണ്ടാമൃഗങ്ങളുടെ ഉപവിഭാഗമാണ് വടക്കൻ വെള്ളക്കാണ്ടാമൃഗം. കാടുകളിൽ നിന്ന് അന്യം നിന്നു പോയ ഈയിനത്തിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ലോകത്ത് ജീവിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ മൃഗങ്ങളും മനുഷ്യരുടെ സംരക്ഷണയിലാണ്.[3][4]
