ചേകവൻ ശലഭം

കേരളത്തിൽ വളരെ വിരളമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ശലഭമാണ് ചേകവൻ (Maculate Lancer, Plastingia sala).[1][2][3][4][5][6] സഹ്യപർവ്വതത്തിന്റെ വനാന്തരങ്ങളാണ് ഇവയുടെ ആവാസകേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ. നനവാർന്ന ഇടതൂർന്ന കാടുകളോടാണ് കൂടുതൽ മമത. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വടക്കു കിഴക്കൻ വനാന്തരങ്ങളും ഇവയുടെ ഇഷ്ടതാവളങ്ങളാണ്.[4]

വിവരണം
തിരുത്തുകചിറകുപുറത്തിനു വെളുപ്പും തവിട്ടും കലർന്ന നിറമാണ്. മുൻചിറകുപുറത്തു പുള്ളികൾ കാണാം. ചിറകിന്റെ അടിവശത്തിനു ഇളം നീലഛായ കലർന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. മഞ്ഞകലർന്ന തവിട്ട് നിറവും കാണാം. ഇരുണ്ടപുള്ളികൾ ഇരുചിറകിന്റേയും അടിവശത്തു കാണുന്നുണ്ട്. ചിറകുകളുടെ ഓരത്ത് മങ്ങിയ പൊട്ടുകൾ നിരയായി അടുക്കിവച്ചിരിയ്ക്കും.[1]
