കൊമ്പൻമൂങ്ങയ്ക്ക്[4] [5][6][7] ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ Indian Eagle-Owl, Rock Eagle-Owl, Bengal Eagle-Owl എന്നെല്ലാം പേരുകളുണ്ട്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Bubo bengalensis എന്നാണ്. ഇവയുടെ കരച്ചിൽ സൂര്യൻ ഉദിക്കുംപ്പോഴും അസ്തമിക്കുമ്പോഴും കേൾക്കാറുണ്ട്. എലി മുതളായവയാണ് സാധാരണാ ഭക്ഷണം. എന്നാൽ തണുപ്പുകാലത്ത് പ്രാവു് പോലുള്ള പക്ഷികളേയും ഭക്ഷിക്കാറുണ്ട്. [8] പനങ്കാക്ക,[9] the പ്രാപ്പിടിയൻ, പുള്ളിനത്ത്, മയിലിന്റെ വലിപ്പമുള്ള പക്ഷികൾ[10] എന്നിവയേയും ഭക്ഷണമാക്കാറുണ്ട്. വവ്വാലുകളും ഭക്ഷണമാക്കാറുണ്ട്.[11]

വലിയ ഇരകളെ കൊത്തി പറിച്ചാണ് ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്.[12]

വിതരണം തിരുത്തുക

കുന്നുകളിലേയും പാറക്കൂട്ടങ്ങളിലേയും കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളിൽ ജോടികളായി കാണുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യ, ശ്രീലങ്ക, മ്യാൻമാർ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. [13]

50-56 സെ.മീ നീളം. 1100-2000 ഗ്രാം തൂക്കം. വലിയ മൂങ്ങയാണ്. തലയിൽ ശിഖയുണ്ട്. തവിട്ടു നിറവും ചാരനിറവുമാണ്.കഴുത്തിൽ കറുത്ത വരകളുള്ള വെള്ള അടയാളം.

മുഖത്തിന് കറുത്ത അതിരുണ്ട്. ഉള്ളിലെ നഖങ്ങൾക്ക് (inner claws) നീളം കൂടൂതലുണ്ട്. കാലിന്റെ അവസാന സന്ധിയിൽ തൂവലുകളില്ല.

ഭീഷണി ഭാവം

നവമ്പർ മുതൽ ഏപ്രിൽ വരെയാണ് പ്രജനന കാലം. 3-4 മങ്ങിയ വെള്ള നിറത്തിലുള്ള മുട്ടകളിടും. തറയിലാണ് മുട്ടകളിടുന്നത്. [8][9] ഒരേ സ്ഥലം തന്നെ അടുത്ത വർഷങ്ങളിലും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.[14] മുട്ടകൾ 33 ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് വിരിയും. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ 6 മാസം വരെ രക്ഷിതാക്കാളെ ആശ്രായിച്ച് ജീവിക്കും.[15] (UTC)
