കൽക്കട്ടയിലെ ഏഷ്യാറ്റിക് സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ മ്യൂസിയത്തിലെ ജന്തുശാസ്ത്രവിഭാഗത്തിലെ ക്യുറേറ്റർ ആയി ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും പ്രവർത്തിച്ച ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരനായ ഒരു ജന്തുശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ് എഡ്‌വേഡ് ബ്ലിത് (Edward Blyth) (23 ഡിസംബർ 1810 – 27 ഡിസംബർ 1873).

1810 -ൽ ലണ്ടനിലാണ് ബ്ലിത്തിന്റെ ജനനം. 1841 -ൽ അദ്ദേഹം റോയൽ ഏഷ്യാറ്റിക് സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ മ്യൂസിയം ക്യുറേറ്ററായി ജോലി ചെയ്യുവാൻ കൽക്കട്ടയിൽ എത്തി. മ്യൂസിയത്തിലെ കാറ്റലോഗുകൾ പൂർണ്ണമാക്കൻ ശ്രമിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം 1849 -ൽ Catalogue of the Birds of the Asiatic Society പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. 1862 വരെ ആ ജോലിയിൽ തുടർന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ആരോഗ്യം മോശമായതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് 1862 -ൽ ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങി.അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ Natural History of the Cranes അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മരണശേഷം 1881 -ലാണ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചത്.[1][2]
അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പക്ഷികളിൽ Blyth's hornbill, Blyth's leaf warbler, Blyth's hawk-eagle, Blyth's olive bulbul, Blyth's parakeet, Blyth's frogmouth, Blyth's reed warbler, Blyth's rosefinch, Blyth's shrike-babbler, Blyth's tragopan, Blyth's pipit, Blyth's kingfisher എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. Blythia reticulata, Eumeces blythianus, Rhinophis blythii. എന്നീ ഉരഗങ്ങളും ബ്ലിത്തിന്റെ പേരിലാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.[3]
