സെയിന്റ് യൂലാലിയ (വാട്ടർഹൗസ് പെയിന്റിംഗ്)
1885-ൽ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ചിത്രകാരനായ ജോൺ വില്യം വാട്ടർഹൗസ് ചിത്രീകരിച്ച പ്രീ-റാഫേലൈറ്റ് രീതിയിലുള്ള ഒരു എണ്ണച്ചായാചിത്രമാണ് സെയിന്റ് യൂലാലിയ. മെറിഡയിലെ യൂലാലിയയുടെ മരണശേഷമുള്ള രംഗം വാട്ടർഹൗസ് ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നിലവിൽ ഈ ചിത്രം ടേറ്റ് ബ്രിട്ടനിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

വാട്ടർഹൗസിൻറെ അസാധാരണമായ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ എണ്ണച്ചായചിത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണിത്. യൂലാലിയ 12-14 പ്രായമുള്ള ഭക്തിയുള്ള ഒരു ക്രിസ്തീയ കന്യക ആയിരുന്നു. 12 വയസ്സുള്ള ഏകാകിനിയായ ഒരു പെൺകുട്ടിയായി അവളുടെ നഗ്നമായ മൃതശരീരത്തിലെ മാംസത്തെ മൂടിയിരുന്ന മഞ്ഞിനെ മാറ്റി വാട്ടർ ഹൌസ് ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.[1]
ഐതിഹ്യപ്രകാരം,[2] ഈ വിശുദ്ധയുടെ നഗ്നത മറയ്ക്കാനുള്ള വസ്ത്രമായി മഞ്ഞിനെ ദൈവം അയച്ചതാകാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രാവ്, ദുഃഖിതരായ ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തിനിടയിലൂടെ മുകളിൽ നിന്ന് പറന്നിറങ്ങുന്നു. യൂലാലിയയുടെ ആത്മാവ് സ്വർഗത്തിലേക്ക് പറന്നുയർന്നതായി ഇത് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഒരുപക്ഷെ അവളുടെ വായിൽ നിന്നു പറന്നു പുറത്തു വന്നതാകാമെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.[3]
