ഈ വർഗ്ഗത്തെ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഓർണത്തോളജി ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ വാൾട്ടർ റോഥ്സ് ചൈൽഡ് 1892-ൽ നിലവിലെ ദ്വിനാമം പ്രകാരം വിവരിച്ചു.[2]1950-ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഒരു അവലോകനത്തിൽ, അമേരിക്കൻ പക്ഷിശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ ഡീൻ അമാഡോൺ ലെയ്സൻ ഹണിക്രീപ്പറിനെ 'ʻഅപ്പപാനെയുടെ' ഒരു ഉപജാതിയായി കണക്കാക്കുകയും ഹിമീഷൻ സാങ്കുനിയ ഫ്രീത്തി എന്ന ത്രിപദനാമപദ്ധതി നാമം സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[3]
