യൂക്കോൺ[7] കാനഡയിലെ മൂന്ന് ഫെഡറൽ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ഏറ്റവും ചെറുതും രാജ്യത്തിൻറെ പടിഞ്ഞാറേയറ്റത്തു സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നതുമായ ഒരു പ്രദേശമാണ്. വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രവിശ്യകളും നൂനാവുട്ടുമാണ് മറ്റു രണ്ടു ഫെഡറൽ പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ. 35,874 ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള ഇവിടെ കാനഡയിലെ മറ്റേതൊരു പ്രവിശ്യയിലോ ഭൂപ്രദേശത്തിലോ ഉള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയ ജനസംഖ്യയാണുള്ളതെങ്കിലും മൂന്നു പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലുള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ വലിയ നഗരം ഇവിടെയാണുള്ളത്.[8] വൈറ്റ്ഹോഴ്സ് പ്രാദേശിക തലസ്ഥാനവും ഏക നഗരവുമാണ്.

1898-ൽ വടക്ക്-പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് വിഭജിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഈ പ്രദേശം യുകോൺ ടെറിട്ടറിയായി മാറി. 2002 മാർച്ച് 27-ന് ഫെഡറൽ സർക്കാരിൻറെ യൂക്കോൺ ആക്ടിന് രാജകീയ അനുമതി ലഭിച്ചതോടെ ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ ഔദ്യോഗിക നാമമായി[9] യൂക്കോൺ സ്ഥാപിച്ചുവങ്കിലും ഇപ്പോഴും ഉപയോഗത്തിലുള്ള ജനപ്രിയമായ യൂക്കോൺ ടെറിറ്ററി എന്ന നാമം, കാനഡ പോസ്റ്റ് ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ അന്തർദ്ദേശീയമായി അംഗീകരിച്ച തപാൽ ചുരുക്കരൂപമായ YT എന്ന് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് തുടരുന്നു.[10] 2021-ൽ, പ്രാദേശിക ഗവൺമെന്റ് നയം മാറ്റിയതിലൂടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക പ്രാദേശിക സർക്കാർ സാമഗ്രികളിൽ "ദ യൂക്കോൺ" എന്ന പേര് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിന് ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു.[11] ഔദ്യോഗികമായി ദ്വിഭാഷാ (ഇംഗ്ലീഷും ഫ്രഞ്ചും) സംവിധാനമാണെങ്കിലും യൂക്കോൺ സർക്കാർ ഫസ്റ്റ് നേഷൻസ് ഭാഷകളും അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നു.
5,959 മീറ്റർ (19,551 അടി) ഉയരത്തിൽ, ക്ലുവാൻ നാഷണൽ പാർക്ക് ആൻറ് റിസർവിലിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന യൂക്കോണിലെ മൗണ്ട് ലോഗൻ, കാനഡയിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരം കൂടിയ പർവതവും വടക്കേ അമേരിക്കൻ ഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന പർവതവുമാണ് (യു.എസ്. സംസ്ഥാനമായ അലാസ്കയിലെ ഡെനാലിക്ക് ശേഷം). യുകോണിന്റെ ഭൂരിഭാഗം പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും നീണ്ട, തണുത്ത ശൈത്യകാലവും ഹ്രസ്വവും ചൂടുള്ളതുമായ വേനൽക്കാലവുമുള്ള ഒരു സബാർട്ടിക് കാലാവസ്ഥയാണ് അനുഭവപ്പെടാറുള്ളത്. ആർട്ടിക് സമുദ്രതീരത്ത് തുന്ദ്ര കാലാവസ്ഥയുണ്ട്. യൂക്കോണിലെ പ്രധാന നദികളിൽ യൂക്കോൺ നദിയും പെല്ലി, സ്റ്റുവർട്ട്, പീൽ, വൈറ്റ്, ലിയാർഡ്, തത്ഷെൻഷിനി നദികളും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
