മരയോന്ത്
ഓന്തുകളിലെ ഒരു വിഭാഗമാണ് മരയോന്ത്. (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Chamaeleo zeylanicus) Indian chamaeleon. പൊതുവെ പച്ച നിറമാണ്. 15 ഇഞ്ച് വലിപ്പം വരും. വാലിന് 8 ഇഞ്ചോളം നീളം വരും. ഏതുഭാഗത്തേക്കും തിരിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്ന കണ്ണുകളുണ്ട്. പുറകിലേക്കും കാണാൻ പറ്റും. ശരീരത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടിരട്ടിയോളം നീളമുള്ള നാക്ക് ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് ഇര പിടിക്കുന്നത്. നാവിന്റെ അറ്റത്തുള്ള പശയിൽ ഇരയെ ഒട്ടിച്ചെടുത്ത് കഴിക്കുന്നു.രണ്ടുഭാഗത്തേക്കും വിടർന്നു നിൽക്കുന്ന നഖങ്ങളുള്ള വിരലുകളുണ്ട്.വാലുകൾ ചുരുട്ടിവയ്ക്കാവുന്നവയാണ്. ത്വക്കിന്റെ നിറം മാറ്റാൻ കഴിവുള്ളവയാണ്.

ആഹാരം തിരുത്തുക
ചിതലുകൾ ചീവീടുകൾ, പുൽച്ചാടികൾ എന്നിവയാണ് ഭക്ഷണം. ലാർവകളേയും ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
പ്രജനനം തിരുത്തുക
തണുപ്പുകാലം തുടങ്ങുമ്പോൾ മണ്ണിൽ ഒരടിയോളം താഴ്ചയിലുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന കുഴിയിൽ 10-40 മുട്ടകൾ ഐടുന്നു. ഇവ മൂന്നുമാസം കൊണ്ട് വിരിയുന്നു.

ഇന്ത്യൻ വന്യജീവി സംരക്ഷണ നിയമത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം പട്ടികയിലുള്ള ജീവിയാണ്.
