ഫ്രഡറിക് മൂർ
ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരനായ ഒരു പ്രാണിപഠനശാസ്ത്രകാരനായിരുന്നു ഫ്രഡറിക് മൂർ (Frederic Moore). FZS (13 മെയ് 1830 – 10 മെയ് 1907)( ഒരു ചിത്രകാരൻ കൂടിയായ അദ്ദേഹം ആറു വാല്യങ്ങളിലായി Lepidoptera Indica -കൂടാതെ ഈസ്റ്റ് ഇന്ത്യ കമ്പനിയുടെ ശേഖരത്തിലുള്ള പക്ഷികളുടെ ഒരു കാറ്റലോഗും ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.
മൂർ 33 ബ്രൂണൺ സ്ട്രീറ്റിൽ ജനിച്ചതായി പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഇത് 1826 മുതൽ 1836 വരെ സുവോളജിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ലണ്ടനിലെയും മെനാജെറീയുടേയും ഓഫീസിലെ വിലാസമാണ്..[1] അദ്ദേഹം ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഈസ്റ്റ് ഇന്ത്യ കമ്പനിയുടെ ലണ്ടൻ മ്യൂസിയത്തിൽ 31 മെയ് 1848 മുതൽ താൽക്കാലികമായും പിന്നീട് സഹപരിപാലകനായും നിയമിതനായി.[2] അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകളുടെ പേര് Rosa Martha Moore എന്നാണ്. അദ്ദേഹം Lepidoptera indica (1890–1913)എന്ന ദക്ഷിണേഷ്യയിലെ ചിത്രശലഭങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പുസ്തകം പത്തു ഭാഗങ്ങളായി എഴുതിത്തുടങ്ങി. അവസാനത്തെ നാല് ഭാഗങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മരണശേഷം Charles Swinhoe ആണ് പൂർത്തീകരിച്ചത്.അതിലെ അധികം ചിത്രങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകനും (F. C. Moore) ബാക്കിയുള്ളവ E C Knight, John Nugent Fitch എന്നിവരുമാണ് വരച്ചത്.[3][4] ധാരാളം ചിത്രശലഭങ്ങളെ ആ പുസ്തകങ്ങളിൽ ആദ്യമായി വിവരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
"Moore entered the doors of entomology by way of his artistic abilities. Dr. T. Horsfield (1777–1859), long associated with the East India Museum, required someone capable of doing natural history drawings and, through an introduction, Frederic Moore obtained the post. Thus began a lifetime association with Indian Lepidoptera"[5]
അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സഹോദരൻ T. J. Moore ലിവർപൂൾ മ്യൂസിയത്തിലെ പരിപാലകനും മകൻ Thomas Francis Moore മെൽബൺ നാഷണൽ മ്യൂസിയത്തിലെ അസ്ഥിശാസ്ത്രവിദക്തനും ആയിരുന്നു.[6]
അദ്ദേഹം Linnean Society of London, Entomological Society of London, Entomological Society of Stettin, Entomological Society of the Netherlands എന്നിവയിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്നു. A catalogue of the birds in the museum of the East-India Company (1854–58, തോമസ് ഹോർസ്ഫീൽഡിന്റെ കൂടെ), A catalogue of the lepidopterous insects in the museum of the Hon. East-India company (1857, തോമസ് ഹോർസ്ഫീൽഡിന്റെ കൂടെ), The Lepidoptera of Ceylon എന്നിവയാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മറ്റു കൃതികൾ.
