1962-ലെ ബർമീസ് പട്ടാള അട്ടിമറിക്ക് ശേഷം ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡവുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ള ആളുകൾക്കെതിരെയുള്ള വംശീയത ആളിക്കത്തിയിരുന്നു. സോഷ്യലിസ്റ്റ് സൈനിക ഗവൺമെന്റ് ബർമീസ് ഇന്ത്യൻ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ പല സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടെ എല്ലാ സ്വത്തുക്കളും ദേശസാൽക്കരിച്ചു. 1962 നും 1964 നും ഇടക്കുള്ള കാലത്ത് ഏകദേശം 320,000 ബർമീസ് ഇന്ത്യക്കാർ രാജ്യം വിടാൻ നിർബന്ധിതരായിത്തീർന്നു.<ref name="EmberEmber2004">{{cite book
