'''ക്രീറ്റ്,''' ഗ്രീക്ക് ദ്വീപുകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലുതും ജനസംഖ്യ കൂടിയതുമായ ദ്വീപാണ്. മെഡിറ്ററേനിയൻ കടലിലെ അഞ്ചാമത്തെ വലിയ ദ്വീപും ഇതാണ്. സിസിലി,സാഡീനിയ,സൈപ്രസ്,കോർസിക്ക എന്നിവയാണ് മറ്റുള്ളവ. ക്രീറ്റും അതിനു ചുറ്റുപാടും കിടക്കുന്ന അനേകം ചെറുദ്വീപുകളും ചേർന്നതാണ് ക്രീറ്റ് മേഖല. ഗ്രീസിന്റെ പതിമൂന്ന് പ്രധാന ഭരണഘടകങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്. ക്രീറ്റിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനവും ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പട്ടണവുമാണ് ഹെറാക്ലിയോൺ. 2011 ലെ സെൻസസ് അനുസരിച്ച് ഈ പ്രദേശത്തെ ജനസംഖ്യ 6,23,065 ആയിരുന്നു.
