സസ്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഉപഗോത്രമാണ് മാർസൂപ്പേലിയ. ഉദര സഞ്ചിയുള്ള ഇവ പ്രധാനമായും ആസ്ത്രേലിയയിലും പിന്നെ അമേരിക്കയിലും കാണുന്നു. ഇതിലെ മിക്കവാറും ജീവികൾക്കും ഉദരസഞ്ചിയുണ്ട്. കാംഗരൂ, ഒപ്പോസം, കോല, വാലാബി എന്നിവ ഈ ഗോത്രത്തിലെ ജീവികളാണ്.

ഇവ പൂർണ്ണവളർച്ചയെത്താത്ത കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയാണ് പ്രസവിക്കുന്നത്. കുഞ്ഞ് സഞ്ചിയിൽ കിടന്ന് മുലപ്പാൽ കുടിച്ച് വളർച്ചയെത്തും. ഇവയിലെ 70 ശതമാനത്തോളം വർഗ്ഗങ്ങളും ആസ്ത്രേലിയ, ന്യൂ ഗിനിയ അവയുടെ അടുത്തുള്ള ദ്വീപുകൾ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ വസിക്കുമ്പോൾ ബാക്കിയുള്ളവ അമേരിക്കയിലും മറ്റുമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
