പെരുംകൊച്ച്യ്ക്ക്[2] [3][4][5] ആംഗലത്തിൽ Eurasian bittern , great bittern എന്നീ പേരുകളുണ്ട്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Botaurus stellarisഎന്നാണ്.

ivayK 69–81 സെ.മീ (27–32 ഇഞ്ച്)നീളമുണ്ട് , 100–130 സെ.മീ (39–51 ഇഞ്ച്) ചിറകുവിരിപ്പും 0.87–1.94 കി.ഗ്രാം (1.9–4.3 lb)തൂക്കവും ഉണ്ട്.[6]
വിതരണം
തിരുത്തുകമിക്കവാറും ഒറ്റയ്ക്കാണ് ഇവ ഇര തേടുന്നത്. വെള്ളത്തിൽ വളരെ പതുക്കെ നടന്നോ അനങ്ങാതെ നിന്നൊ ആണ് ഇര പിടിക്കുന്നത്. കാലത്തും സന്ധ്യക്കുമാണ് കൂടുതൽ ഇര തേടുന്നത്.
പ്രജനനം

പൂവൻ അഞ്ചു പിടകളോടു വരെ ഇണ ചേരും. ചെടികൾക്കിടയിൽ ഉയർത്തിയാണ് കൂട് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്. 4-5 മുട്ടകളിടും. പിട അടയിരിക്കുന്നു. വിരിഞ്ഞ് രണ്ടാഴ്ചകൂടി കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ കൂട്ടിൽ കഴിയും.
ഭക്ഷണം
തിരുത്തുകആഴം കുറഞ്ഞ വെള്ളത്തിൽ ചെടികൾക്കരികിലാണ് ഇര തേടുന്നത്. മത്സ്യങ്ങൾ, ഉഭയ ജീവികൾ, അക്ശേരുകികൾ എന്നിവയാണ് ഭക്ഷണം.
