പഞ്ചാബികൾ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പഞ്ചാബി ജനങ്ങൾ  പഞ്ചാബിൽ നിന്നും ഉടലെടുത്ത ഇന്ഡോ ആര്യൻ ജനതയാണ്. ഈ ജനവിഭാഗം പാകിസ്താനിലും, ഇന്ത്യയിലുമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. പഞ്ചാബ് പൊതുവായി ലാന്റ് ഓഫ് ഫൈവ് വാട്ടേഴ്സ് എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ടർക്കോ പേർഷ്യൻ ചക്രവർത്തിമാരായിരുന്നു [11] പഞ്ചാബിനെ ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കും, മറ്റു മുഗൾ ചക്രവർത്തിമാർക്കും പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്.[12] പഞ്ചാബ് പാകിസ്താനിലേയും, ഇന്ത്യയിലേയും, റൊട്ടി പാത്രം എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

വ്യത്യസ്ത ഗോത്രങ്ങളും, മതങ്ങളും, ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥകളുമന്ന്യ പഞ്ചാബി എന്ന പൊതുവായ സ്വത്വം  വന്നത് പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടോടുകൂടിയായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ നരവംശ സംസ്കാരത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പഠിക്കുന്ന ശാസ്ത്രശാഖയിൽ ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു സംസ്കാരത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നതേയില്ല. പക്ഷേ പഞ്ചാബിൽ വളർന്നുവന്ന എല്ലാത്തിനും വർഷങ്ങളുടെ പഴക്കമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പാരമ്പര്യമായി പഞ്ചാബിന്റെ വ്യക്തിത്വം നിലനിൽക്കുന്നത് അവരുടെ ഭാഷയിലും സംസ്കാരത്തിലും ഭൂഘടനയിലുമാണ്. അത് ചരിത്രത്തിൽനിന്നും, മതത്തിൽ നിന്നും, വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്. പഞ്ചാബിലെ എല്ലായിടങ്ങളിലും പഞ്ചാബിയാണ് മാതൃഭാഷ. [16]ഏകീകരണവും, ഒത്തുചേരലും പഞ്ചാബിന്റെ സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഭാഗങ്ങളാണ്. എല്ലാ പഞ്ചാബികളും, സ്വന്തം സാംസ്കാരിക ചുറ്റുപാടുകളെ കൈമാറ്റം ചെയ്യാറുണ്ട്.

ചരിത്രപരമായി പഞ്ചാബികൾ ഒത്തുചേരുന്ന ഒരു കൂട്ടമായിരുന്നു, ബർദാരി എന്ന പേരിൽ അവരെ വിജിച്ചിരുന്നു, ഓരോ വ്യക്തിയും ഓരോ ഗോത്രത്തിൽ ചേരണം. എങ്ങനെയിരുന്നാലും, പഞ്ചാബിന്റെ സംസ്കാരം ഒരു തായ്‌വേരുകളുമില്ലാത്ത തനിമയാർന്ന കുറേയധികം ഗോത്രങ്ങളടങ്ങിയതാണ്. പക്ഷേ കാലത്തിന്റെ പോക്കിൽ ഓരോ ഗോത്രവും അതിന്റെ ഘടനയിൽ മാറ്റം വരുത്തി കൂടുതൽ അടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്,[17] രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ ചികിത്സിച്ചാൽ പോര മനുഷ്യന്റെ ശാരീരികവും മാനസികവും സാമൂഹികവുമായ ഘടകങ്ങളെ പരിഗണിക്കണം എന്ന ചിന്താഗതിയെ നിലനിർത്തുന്ന സമുഹമായി.അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് പരസ്പരാശ്രയത്വവും സാമൂഹ്യ സ്വത്വത്തെ നിർമ്മിച്ചെടുത്തതും.[18][19][20]
