നോവാവാക്സ് വാക്സിൻ വികസനത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ-അമേരിക്കൻ ഫിസിഷ്യനും വാക്സിനോളജിസ്റ്റുമാണ് നിത പട്ടേൽ (ജനനം: 1965). നോവാവാക്സ് കോവിഡ് -19 വാക്സിൻ വികസനത്തിന് മേൽനോട്ടം വഹിച്ചു.

ഗുജറാത്തിലെ കാർഷിക ഗ്രാമമായ സോജിത്രയിലാണ് പട്ടേൽ ജനിച്ചത്. അവർക്ക് നാലു വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ അവരുടെ പിതാവിന് ക്ഷയരോഗം പിടിപെട്ടു മരണത്തോട് അടുത്തു.[1] ഈ അനുഭവം പട്ടേലിനെ ഒരു ഫിസിഷ്യനാകാനും ക്ഷയരോഗത്തിന് പരിഹാരം കണ്ടെത്താനും പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചു. ബയോടെക്നോളജിയിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം പട്ടേൽ മേരിലാൻഡിലെ ഗെയ്തർസ്ബർഗിലേക്ക് മാറി. അവിടെ ക്ഷയരോഗം, റെസ്പിറേറ്ററി സിൻസിറ്റിയൽ വൈറസ്, ലൈം രോഗം എന്നിവയ്ക്കുള്ള പ്രതിരോധ കുത്തിവയ്പ്പുകൾ നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ നീരീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന മെഡിഇമ്യൂൺ എന്ന കമ്പനിയിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്തു.
