അമേരിക്കൻ എഴുത്തുകാരനായ ജെ.ഡി. സാലിംഗർ എഴുതിയ ഏക നോവൽ ആണ് ദ് കാച്ചർ ഇൻ ദ് റൈ. ഈ നോവൽ 1951-ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചതു മുതൽ ഇന്നു വരെ വളരെ ജനപ്രിയമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. ലോകത്തിലെ എല്ലാ പ്രമുഖ ഭാഷകളിലേക്കും വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ഈ കൃതി[1]ഏകദേശം എല്ലാ വർഷവും 250,000 കോപ്പികൾ വിറ്റഴിയുകയും ആകെ 65 ദശലക്ഷം കോപ്പികൾ വിറ്റഴിയുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.[2] ഇതിലെ കേന്ദ്രകഥാപാത്രം ഹോൾഡൻ കോൾഫിൽഡ് കൗമാരക്കാരുടെ എതിർപ്പിന്റെ ബിംബം ആയി മാറി.[3]

1923-നു ശേഷം ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷയിൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ 100 മികച്ച നോവലുകളിൽ ഒന്നായി 2005-ൽ ടൈം വാരിക തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.[4] ഇതുകൂടാതെ മോഡേൺ ലൈബ്രറി ഈ കൃതിയെ വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത് 20-ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ 100 മികച്ച നോവലുകളിൽ ഒന്ന് എന്നാണ്[5][6].
