ജോർജ്ജ് ബന്താം
ജോർജ്ജ് ബന്താം(22 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 1800 – 10 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 1884)[1] ഇംഗ്ലിഷുകാരനായ പ്രമുഖ സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാകുന്നു.

ജീവചരിത്രം
തിരുത്തുക1800 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 22നു ബന്താം പ്ലിമത്തിലെ സ്റ്റോക്ക് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു ജനിച്ചു. നാവിക ആർചിടെക്റ്റ് ആയിരുന്ന സർ സാമുവൽ ബന്താം ആയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു സ്കൂളിലോ കോളജിലോ പോയിട്ടില്ല. എങ്കിലും വളരെചെറുപ്പത്തിൽത്തന്നെ താൻ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുന്ന വിഷയം എന്തായാലും അതിൽ മുഴുകി പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ഭാഷാവിജ്ഞാനമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം അതീവ തല്പരനായിരുന്ന വിഷയം. ഏഴു വയസ്സായപ്പോഴെ അദ്ദേഹം ഫ്രഞ്ച്, ജർമ്മൻ, റഷ്യൻ എന്നീ ഭാഷകളിൽ പ്രാവീണ്യം നേടി. കുറച്ചുകൂടി കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ത്തന്നെ സ്വീഡനിലുള്ള തന്റെ ഹ്രസ്വസന്ദർശനത്തിലും താമസത്തിനുമിടയ്ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം സ്വീഡിഷ് ഭാഷയും പഠിച്ചു. ഫ്രാൻസിലെത്തിയ അദ്ദേഹം ചെറുപ്രായത്തിൽത്തന്നെ ഹിബ്രു ഭാഷയും ഗണിതവും പഠിച്ചു.

തിരുത്തുകഅദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുത്ത സുഹൃത്തായ ജോസഫ് ഡാൽടൺ ഹൂക്കർ ഡാർവിന്റെ അടുത്ത സുഹൃത്തായിരുന്നു. സാവധാനത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഡാർവ്വിന്റെ പരിണാമസിദ്ധാന്തത്തിൽ അകൃഷ്ടനായി.
