46-51 സെ.മീ നീളം, 59-73 സെ.മീ. ചിറകു വിരിപ്പ്, 0.9- 1.5 കി. ഗ്രാം തൂക്കം[2][3] ഇവ നല്ല നീന്തൽക്കാരുംനല്ല മുങ്ങലുകാരും ആണ്. വെള്ളത്തിനടിയിൽ ഇര തേട്ന്നു. വേനലിൽ പൂവന് തലയിലും കഴുത്തിലും അലങ്കാരങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാവും. തണുപു കാലത്ത് കൊക്കിന് പിങ്കു നിറവുംകണ്ണിനു മുകളിൽ വെളുപ്പു നിറവും ഉണ്ട്.

പ്രജനനം തിരുത്തുക
വെളത്തിന്റെ അരികിലാണ് കൂട് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്. ഇവയുടെ കാലിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം നടക്കുന്നതിന് യോജിച്ചതല്ല. രണ്ടു മുട്ടകളിടുന്നു. വിരിഞ്ഞ ഉടനെ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് നീന്താനും മുങ്ങാനും പറ്റും.

മത്സ്യം, കക്ക, ജവുണി, പ്രാണികൾ, ചെറിയ തവളകൾ എന്നിവയാണ് ഭക്ഷണം
