ജെ.കെ. റൗളിംഗ് സ്വന്തം കൈപ്പടയിൽ എഴുതിയതും ചിത്രീകരിച്ചതുമായ ഏഴ് കോപ്പികൾ മാത്രമുള്ള പരിമിത പതിപ്പിലാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം ആദ്യം നിർമ്മിച്ചത്.[3] അവയിലൊന്ന് 2007-ന്റെ അവസാനത്തിൽ സോത്ത്ബൈസ് മുഖേന ലേലത്തിന് വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തു. 50,000 പൗണ്ടിന് (US$77,000, €69,000) വിൽക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഒടുവിൽ ആമസോൺ അത് 1.95 മില്യൺ പൗണ്ടിന് ($3 ദശലക്ഷം, €2.7 ദശലക്ഷം) വാങ്ങി. ഒരു ആധുനിക സാഹിത്യ കയ്യെഴുത്തുപ്രതിയുടെ ലേലത്തിൽ നേടിയ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന വിൽപ്പന വിലയായായിരുന്നു ഇത്.[4][5]പുസ്‌തകത്തിന്റെ ലേലത്തിൽ ലഭിച്ച പണം ദി ചിൽഡ്രൻസ് വോയ്‌സ് ചാരിറ്റി കാമ്പെയ്‌നിന് നൽകി.[6]
