ഹെല്ലെബോറസ് ഓറിയൻറാലിസ്
ഹെല്ലെബോറസ് ഓറിയൻറാലിസ്, (Helleborus orientalis) ലെന്റൻ റോസ് എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.[1] ചിരസ്ഥായി സപുഷ്പികളായ ഈ സസ്യം ബട്ടർകപ്പ് കുടുംബം ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന റാണുൺകുലേസീ സസ്യകുടുംബത്തിൽപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. ഈ സസ്യത്തിന്റെ ജന്മദേശം ഗ്രീസും ടർക്കിയും ആകുന്നു. [2] 1789- ൽ ജീൻ-ബാപ്റ്റിസ്റ്റ് ലാമാർക്ക് ഈ സ്പീഷീസിനെ വിവരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് ഇപ്പോൾ നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന നാമമായ ഹെല്ലെബോറസ് ഓറിയൻറാലിസിനെ ഹെല്ലെബോറെ ദു ലെവെന്റ് എന്നാണ്. [3] ലാറ്റിനിൽ ഓറിയൻസ് എന്നാൽ കിഴക്ക് എന്നതിൽ നിന്നാണ് സ്പീഷീസ് നാമം ഉത്ഭവിച്ചത്. [4]പൂക്കുന്ന കാലയളവിൽ ഇതിന്റെ സാധാരണനാമം ലെന്റ് എന്നാണ്. [5][6] ജീനസിൽ ഇതിനെ വർഗ്ഗീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് ഹെല്ലെബൊറാസ്ട്രം എന്ന വിഭാഗത്തിലാണ്. ഇത് മറ്റു എട്ട് സ്പീഷീസുകളുമായി ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത ബന്ധം കാണിക്കുന്നു. [7] ഈ സ്പീഷീസുകളെല്ലാം തന്നെ വളരെയധികം വ്യത്യസ്തപ്പെട്ടു കാണുന്നത് കൂടാതെ ഓരോന്നും പരസ്പരം ഹൈബ്രഡൈസും ചെയ്യുന്നു. [8]

ലെന്റൻ റോസ് 30–45 സെന്റിമീറ്റർ ഉയരം വയ്ക്കുന്ന ഒരു ചിരസ്ഥായി ഔഷധിച്ചെടിയാണ്. പച്ചനിറത്തിൽ മൃദുവും തിളക്കമുള്ളതുമായ പാൽമേറ്റ് ലീവ്സ് ആണ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഓരോ ഞെട്ടിലും 7-9 ഇലകൾ വരെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. കപ്പ് ആകൃതിയിലുള്ള പൂക്കൾ മഞ്ഞുകാലത്തും വസന്തകാലത്തും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. പൂക്കളിലെ കേസരത്തിന് മഞ്ഞനിറമാണ്. ലെന്റൻ റോസിന്റെ എല്ലാഭാഗങ്ങളും വിഷമാണ്.[9]
1960-ൽ ഹെലെൻ ബല്ലാർഡ് ഹോർട്ടികൾച്ചർ വഴി നവീകരിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം നിരവധി പുതിയ ഇനങ്ങളെ വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുത്തു. [10] വെള്ള, പച്ച, പിങ്ക്, മറൂൺ, പർപ്പിൾ എന്നീ നിറങ്ങളിൽ കുത്തുകളുള്ള പൂക്കൾ കൃഷിചെയ്തു വരുന്നു.[11]
