സൈലന്റ് നൈറ്റ്
1818-ൽ ഫ്രാൻസ് ഗ്രബർ രചിക്കുകയും ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലേക്ക് ജോൺ യങ് വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്ത ക്രിസ്തുമസ് ഗാനമാണ് സൈലന്റ് നൈറ്റ് (Silent Night, ജർമ്മനിൽ "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht"). 2011-ൽ യുനെസ്‌കോ ഈ ഗാനത്തെ ഒരു "സാംസ്കാരിക നിധി" (intangible cultural heritage) ആയി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.[1]

1818-ൽ ഓസ്ട്രിയൻ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിലെ ഒബെൻഡോർഫ് എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ വി. നിക്കോളാസ് പള്ളിയിലാണ് ആദ്യമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത്. അവിടുത്തെ വികാരിയായ ഫാ. ജോസഫ് മോർ 1816-ൽ ഈ ഗാനത്തിനുള്ളാ വരികൾ എഴുതിയിരുന്നു. അടുത്തുള്ള ആൺസ്ഡോർഫ് ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ അദ്ധ്യാപകനും ഓർഗ്ഗൻ വായനക്കാരനുമായ ഫ്രാൻസ് ഗ്രബർ ഈ വരികൾ ഈണത്തിനിട്ടു.[2]
1859-ൽ ജോൺ യങ് ചെയ്ത വിവർത്തനമാണ് ഇന്ന് കൂടുതലായും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.[3] നൂറ്റി നാൽപ്പതോളം ഭാഷകളിലേക്ക് വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.[4][5]
ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധകാലത്ത് 1914 ഡിസംബർ 25-ന് ബ്രിട്ടിഷ്, ജർമ്മൻ സേനകൾ വെടിനിർത്തൽ ആചരിക്കുകയും "സൈലന്റ് നൈറ്റ്" ആലപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[6]
