റൈനോലൊഫസ് ബെഡ്ഡോമി
റൈനോലൊഫിഡേ കുടുംബത്തിലെ ഒരു വവ്വാലാണ് റൈനോലൊഫസ് ബെഡ്ഡോമി. lesser woolly horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus beddomei), Beddome's horseshoe bat എന്നും വിളിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിലും ശ്രീലങ്കയിലും കാണുന്ന ഇതിന്റെ സ്വാഭാവിക ആവാസസ്ഥലങ്ങൾ ഭൂമധ്യ-അർദ്ധഭൂമധ്യരേഖാപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ നനവാർന്ന ഉയരംകുറഞ്ഞ വനങ്ങളും ഗുഹകളും നഗരപ്രദേശങ്ങളുമാണ്. ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെ നാശത്താൽ ഭീഷണിയുണ്ട്.

നാമകരണം
തിരുത്തുക1905 - ഡാനിഷ് സസ്തനിവിദഗ്ദ്ധനായ Knud Andersen ആണ് ഇതിനെയൊരു പുതിയ സ്പീഷിസ് ആയി വിവരിച്ചത്.[2] "beddomei" എന്ന് സ്പീഷിസിന് നാമകരണം നൽകിയത് കേണൽ ബെഡോമിയുടെ ബഹുമാനാർഥമാണ്. [3] ഈ സ്പീഷിസിന്റെ ഹോളോടൈപ്പ് ശേഖരിച്ചത് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് പ്രകൃതിശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും തന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ വലിയൊരു പങ്ക് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ചെലവഴിച്ചയാളുമായ കേണൽ ബെഡോമിയാണ്. ഹോളോടൈപ്പ് ശേഖരിച്ചത് വയനാട് ജില്ലയിൽ നിന്നുമാണ്.[2]
ജീവശാസ്ത്രവും പരിസ്ഥിതിയും
തിരുത്തുകരാത്രിഞ്ചാരിയായ ഈ വവ്വാൽ ഇക്കോലൊക്കേഷൻ വഴിയാണ് ഇരുട്ടിൽ വഴികണ്ടുപിടിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിന്റെ ഇക്കോലൊക്കേഷൻ ആവൃത്തി 31.0–38.3kഹെട്സ് ആണ്; ഈ ആവൃത്തിയുടെ പരമാവധി ഊർജ്ജം 38.5 ഉം 38.7 kHz ആണ്. ഇതിന്റെ വിളിയുടെ ദൈർഘ്യം 48.2–58.0 സെക്കന്റ് ആണ്.[4]
