രൂത്ത് അയികോ അസവ (ജനുവരി 24, 1926 – ആഗസ്റ്റ് 5, 2013) അമേരിക്കൻ ശില്പികളിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന വനിതയായിരുന്നു. സാൻഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോയിൽ അസവ ഫൗണ്ടൻ ലേഡി എന്നാണറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. സോളോമൻ ആർ ഗഗൻഹെയിം മ്യൂസിയം, വൈറ്റ്നി മ്യൂസിയം ഓഫ് അമേരിക്കൻ ആർട്ട് ഇൻ ന്യൂയോർക്ക് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ കലാശേഖരണങ്ങളിൽ അസവയുടെ ശില്പങ്ങളും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. [3]സാൻഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോ സ്ക്കൂൾ ഓഫ് ആർട്ട്സിന്റെ നിർമ്മാണത്തിനു പിന്നിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നത് അസവ ആയിരുന്നു. [4]2010 -ൽ അസവയുടെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥം രൂത്ത് അസവ സാൻഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോ സ്ക്കൂൾ ഓഫ് ആർട്ട്സ് എന്നു ഇതിനെ പുനർനാമകരണം ചെയ്തു.[5]

1926-ൽ കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ നോർവാൽക്കിലാണ് രൂത്ത് അസവ ജനിച്ചത്. അവരുടെ മാതാപിതാക്കൾ ജപ്പാനിൽ നിന്നുള്ള കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരായിരുന്നു. രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധകാലത്ത് ഫെഡെറൽ ഗവൺമെന്റ് ജാപ്പനീസ് അമേരിക്കൻ ഇന്റേൺമെന്റ് തുടങ്ങുന്നതുവരെ അവരുടെ പിതാവ് ഒരു ട്രക്ക് ഫാം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു.[6]1942-ൽ സാന്ത അനിത റേസ്ട്രാക്ക് വരുന്നതുവരെ അസവയുടെ കുടുംബം ജയിലിലായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഇവരെ അർകൻസാസിലെ റോഹ്വെർ വാർ റിലോക്കേഷൻ സെന്ററിലേയ്ക്ക് അയയ്ക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. [7]കുടുംബം ജയിൽവാസം അനുഭവിക്കുമ്പോൾ അസവയുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരി നാൻസി എന്ന കിമികോ അവരെ കാണാൻ ജപ്പാനിലെത്തിയിരുന്നു. ജപ്പാനിൽ നിന്നുള്ള അമേരിക്കൻ സിറ്റിസൻ ആയതുകൊണ്ട് യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് നാൻസിയെ തിരിച്ചുപോകുന്നത് തടഞ്ഞു. യുദ്ധകാലത്ത് നാൻസിയ്ക്ക് ബലം പ്രയോഗിച്ച് ജപ്പാനിൽ നിൽക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു. 1942 ഫെബ്രുവരിയിൽ എഫ്ബിഐ അസവയുടെ പിതാവ് ഉമാകിച്ചി അസവയെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. ന്യൂമെക്സികോയിലെ ക്യാംപിലെ ജയിലിലേയ്ക്കയച്ചു. ആറുവർഷംവരെ അസവ അവരുടെ പിതാവിനെ കണ്ടിരുന്നില്ല.
