യോകുറ്റ്സ്

മദ്ധ്യ കാലിഫോർണിയിൽ അധിവസിക്കുന്ന തദ്ദേശീയ അമേരിക്കൻ ഇന്ത്യാക്കാരുടെ ഒരു വർഗ്ഗമാണ് യോകുറ്റ്സ് (ഈ വർഗ്ഗക്കാർ മുമ്പ് മാരിപ്പോസൻസ് എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു) യൂറോപ്യന്മാരുമായി ഇടപഴകുന്നതിനു മുമ്പ് യോകുറ്റ്സ വർഗ്ഗക്കാർക്കിടയിൽ ഒരേ ഭാക്ഷ സംസാരിച്ചിരുന്ന ഏകദേശം 60 ഗോത്രങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.

യോകുറ്റ്സ് എന്ന പേര് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സംസാരിക്കുന്ന കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരും ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരും പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ചാണെന്നുള്ള വാദം ഉയർത്തി ഈ വംശത്തിൻറെ പിന്തുടർച്ചക്കാർ അവരുടെ പരമ്പരാഗത ഗോത്രനാമം ഉപയോയിക്കുവാൻ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നു. യോകുറ്റ്സ് എന്ന വാക്കിനർത്ഥം (people) എന്നാണ്. ഇവരുടെ ഉപ ഗ്രൂപ്പുകൾ “ഫൂട്ട്ഹിൽ യോകുറ്റ്സ്”, നോർത്തേൺ വാലി യോകുറ്റ്, സതേൺ വാലി യോകുറ്റ്സ് എന്നിവയാണ്.
