ദക്ഷിണ [[ശാന്ത സമുദ്രം|ശാന്ത സമുദ്രത്തിലെ]] [[സമോവന്‍ ദ്വീപ സമൂഹം|സമോവന്‍ ദ്വീപുകളുടെ]] പടിഞ്ഞാറന്‍ ഭാഗം ഭരിക്കുന്ന രാജ്യമാണ് സമോവ. ഇന്റിപെന്റന്റ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ഓഫ് സമോവ എന്നാണ് ഔദ്യോഗിക നാമം. 1976 ഡിസംബര്‍ 15-ന് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയില്‍ അംഗമായി. കപ്പലോട്ടത്തില്‍ വിദഗ്ദന്മാര്‍ ധാരളമുള്ള ഈ ദ്വീപ സമൂഹത്തെ (അമേരിക്കന്‍ സമോവയും ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ) 20-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിനു മുമ്പ്, ''നാവികരുടെ ദ്വീപുകള്‍'' (Navigators Island) എന്നാണ് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നത്.
