1980 ലെ ഒരുവാഹനാപകടത്തെ തുടർന്ന് നീണ്ട കാലം ചികിത്സയിലായിരുന്നു. 22 മാർച്ച് 2007 -ൽ പഞ്ചാബിലെ തന്റെ ഗ്രാമത്തിലായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. മരണസമയത്ത് വളരെ കഷ്ടതകൾ അനുഭവിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇദ്ദേഹം അവസാനകാലത്ത് ദരിദ്രനായിട്ടാണ് കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നത്.
