[[United Monarchy|പുരാതന യഹൂദരാജ്യത്തിലെ]] രാജാക്കന്മാരിൽ രണ്ടാമനും ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തനുമാണ് '''ദാവീദ്'''.ഇസ്രയേലിലെ [[ശൗൽ]] രാജാവിന്റെ അംഗരക്ഷകനായിരുന്നു ദാവീദ് .[[ഗോലിയാത്ത്]] എന്ന ഭീകരനെ കവണ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു വധിച്ചതോടെ ഡേവിഡിന്റെ സ്വാധീനം വർധിച്ചു. ശൗലിന് ഡേവിഡിനോടുള്ള അസൂയയും വർധിച്ചു. നിരവധി പ്രതിബന്ധങ്ങൾ തരണം ചെയ്ത ഡേവിഡ് ശൗലിന്റെ മരണശേഷം ജൂഡായിലെ രാജാവായി. നാല്പതു വർഷക്കാലം ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഭരണം നീണ്ടുനിന്നതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. രാജ്യവിസ്തൃതി വർധിപ്പിച്ചു. ജറുസലേം കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തി അവിടം മതകേന്ദ്രവും സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനവുമാക്കി. 40 വർഷം നീണ്ടു നിന്ന ഭരണകാലത്തിനിടയ്ക്ക് പല ഭരണപരിഷ്കാരങ്ങളും നടപ്പിൽ വരുത്തി.
