ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമായി ഇതൊരു മുനമ്പ് ആണ്."കേപ്പ് കൊമാറിൻ" എന്നാണ് ബ്രിട്ടിഷുകാർ ഈ മുനമ്പിനു നൽകിയ പേര്.പുരാതന കാലം മുതൽ തന്നെ ഈ ജില്ല ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമായി രണ്ടു മേഖലകൾ യഥാക്രമം "നന്ജിൽനാട്" ,"ഇദൈനാട്" എന്നിവ ഉൾകൊള്ളുന്നതാണ്.
